(Saturday, May 3, 2014)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: New England 2, Toronto 1

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrick Mullins enjoyed a banner day BMO Field on Saturday, scoring once and earning a penalty to lead the New England Revolution to a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC.

Mullins opened his MLS scoring account in the first half of Saturday's affair by canceling out Jackson's early strike with a superb hit.

He went on to earn a late penalty for the visitors, which Lee Nguyen converted to help New England (4-3-2) earn a second straight win and extend its unbeaten run to four games.

The Revs improve to 14 points on the season, bringing the club five points clear of Toronto (3-4-0).

The hosts were in front after only six minutes when Jackson's shot from distance took a deflection on its way past Bobby Shuttleworth.

But New England managed to level the score in the 24th minute when Mullins capitalized on a giveaway from the Toronto defense to smash a left-footed rifle into the upper corner.

The match remained tied until the closing stages when Mullins uncorked a shot from close range that was blocked by the outstretched arm of Doneil Henry. A penalty was awarded to the visitors and Nguyen converted to give the Revs the go-ahead goal.

Shuttleworth helped preserve the narrow lead by pulling off a wonder save in the 87th minute. The Revolution goalkeeper pushed Gilberto's header onto the post and was able to pounce on the loose ball to deny the Reds a chance at a late equalizer.
