Fagundez keeps Revs alive with winner against Crew

Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - A 76th-minute goal from Diego Fagundez kept the New England Revolution's playoff hopes alive as the Revs secured a 3-2 win against the Columbus Crew at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.

New England moves into the top five in the Eastern Conference with the result and will head into the final weekend in contention for a postseason berth.

Columbus, meanwhile, is eliminated with the defeat despite getting a goal and an assist from both Dominic Oduro and Aaron Schoenfeld on Saturday.

A.J. Soares scored the lone goal of the first half with a flicked header from Kelyn Rowe's free kick that beat goalkeeper Matt Lampson in the 32nd minute.

But the match really came to life over the final 30 minutes as Schoenfeld picked out Oduro inside the penalty area and he lashed a shot into the upper corner of the net that eluded New England netminder Matt Reis at his near post.

Andy Dorman helped New England regain the lead when he drew a foul on Crew defender Tony Tchani inside the area, allowing Chris Tierney to fire home the subsequent spot kick.

But Columbus wasn't going to go quietly and Schoenfeld scored a wonderful goal on the turn in the 71st minute to lock the match at 2-2.

Fagundez has been the most consistent threat all season for the Revs and he came to the rescue once more by slotting home a low cross from Dorman for his 13th goal of the campaign.

The Crew had one final chance to equalize in the 86th minute when Schoenfeld pushed a rebound chance just wide from a few yards.
