Dallas hopes to build momentum against San Jose

Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Ahead of Saturday's visit from the San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas got the kind of win on Wednesday that the team hopes can be a turning point in its season.

Dallas was down to 10 men and locked in a 1-1 stalemate with Chivas USA on the road in the final 10 minutes.

The club was in the midst of an 11-match winless streak, and in that situation, most teams would have been happy to emerge with a point.

But instead, Dallas busted that winless run with two goals in the final five minutes to secure three precious points.

"I think it just comes down to the character of the players and determination of the players," FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman told MLSsoccer.com after the comeback win. "They were determined to come away with three points. A lot of teams would have sat back and said, 'We're down a man, let's get a point on the road and we'll feel good about it.'

"I don't think we're in that position where we can get just a point. We have to fight for three points."

The result lifted Dallas into a tie for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and with huge games coming up against San Jose, Vancouver and Colorado in the next three fixtures, it could prove to be a vital three points.

San Jose started poorly this season and has been trying to overcome that slow start ever since.

But with four wins from its past five games, including a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, the Earthquakes find themselves just three points from the last playoff spot.

The next week will be a big test for San Jose's postseason credentials as the club plays three away games across two competitions in seven days.

Following the Dallas match the Earthquakes will travel to Guatemala to face Heredia in CONCACAF Champions League play before returning to the United States to meet the Los Angeles Galaxy next Saturday.
