MLS Game Summary - Toronto FC at Montreal

(Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: Toronto FC 2, Montreal 0

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Toronto FC put the brakes on a four-match winless run in league play on Saturday as the Reds rolled to a 2-0 victory over Canadian rivals the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo.

With top-choice striker Jermain Defoe unavailable due to injury, head coach Ryan Nelsen tabbed Gilberto and Luke Moore to pick up the slack and the decision paid dividends as Gilberto struck in the 11th minute and Moore scored in the 54th minute to lift TFC to 29 points.

Montreal continued to struggle as even against their most heated rival, they lacked any kind of attacking prowess and suffered a sixth consecutive defeat.

It took just 11 minutes for the visitors to pounce on the Impact. The scoring play was started by Michael Bradley, who the ball out wide on the right flank to Dominic Oduro. Oduro then sent it into the box first-time and Gilberto finished the play, firing a rocket from in close off the underside of the crossbar.

TFC added the second goal in the 54th minute, and it was Bradley who again got the play started when he collected the ball in the middle of the park and sent Oduro through on goal with a great through ball. Oduro chased it down and squared it across the face of goal to Moore, who finished the play with an easy tap-in for his fourth goal of the campaign.

Hoping for an injection of pace and creativity, Impact manager Frank Klopas handed academy product Anthony Jackson-Hamel his debut in the 65th minute before sending Dilly Duka onto the field nine minutes later.

But Montreal failed to create many quality scoring opportunities and suffered another defeat.
