MLS Game Summary - New England at Toronto FC

(Saturday, June 23, 2012)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: New England 2, Toronto FC 2

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Toronto FC hit an all new low Saturday.

Chris Tierney scored deep in injury time as the New England Revolution rallied from two goals down late to tie Toronto FC, 2-2, in Major League Soccer at BMO Field.

Toronto FC blew a two-goal lead after the 70th minute for the second time this week. The Houston Dynamo scored twice in the final stages Wednesday, including the game-winner in stoppage time, for a 3-3 draw.

New England followed the same plot, as Blake Brettschneider scored in the 71st and Tierney scored with just 30 seconds remaining in 4 minutes of extra time.

The Revolution (5-7-3) earned a result on the road for just the second time in eight games this season and spoiled former assistant coach Paul Mariner's home debut as head coach for TFC (1-10-2).

Toronto was on course to hand Mariner his first win as Danny Koevermans scored his third goal of the week after just 4 minutes, and Ryan Johnson added a goal late in the first half.

Coupled with the play of goalkeeper Milos Kocic, who made a couple nice saves, TFC held the two-goal lead through 70 minutes before everything fell apart for the second time in four days.

Will Bruin scored in the 73rd and stoppage time for Houston and Brettschneider pulled the first goal back for New England just after the 70-minute mark.

Benny Feilhaber drilled the left post in the 88th as Toronto survived a scare, but the nightmare was not over as Tierney sent a shot through traffic and just past Kocic to the left side in the dying seconds to split the points.
