The Carolina RailHawks announced Friday that they will host Honduran powerhouse CD Olimpia on Friday, March 27, at 8 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
The match continues the RailHawks' desire to bring matches against top opponents. The RailHawks have previously played Cruz Azul and Monterrey of Mexico.
“Matches like this one are great for us,” said RailHawks Head Coach Martin Rennie. “It allows us to measure up to a quality side and further evaluate our roster in preparation for the 2009 USL-1 Season.”
“We are excited to bring CD Olimpia to the Triangle,” said RailHawks President Brian Wellman. “They are one of the most successful teams in Honduras and the match allows us to further integrate the Hispanic community in what we are building here. We are certain the large amount of Hondurans in the area will not want to miss the opportunity of seeing one of their favorite teams.”
Club Deportivo Olimpia is a Honduran football and baseball club based in Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazán. They compete in the Liga Nacional de Honduras, the top division in the country, and play their home matches in the Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino. The club was founded in 1912, and is the nation's most successful team having won 21 domestic league titles. Also, they are the only Honduran club ever to win the CONCACAF Champions' Cup twice.
