St. Aug's releases Sheals as head men's basketball coach

Posted March 27

Saint Augustine’s University announced Thursday, March 27, 2014, that Tony Sheals has been relieved of his duties as Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The university said they will begin a national search for his replacement immediately.

Sheals led the Falcons to a 13-16 overall record and 4-12 conference record last season after replacing former head coach Lonnie Blow, who left for a job at Virginia State, last August.

Sheals had coached on the high school, collegiate and professional levels, including Florida State University, Bethune-Cookman University, Towson University and Delaware State University. Sheals spent the last three seasons at Florida A&M University, where he was the associate head coach.

Dr. Prezell Robinson would not let this happen. Ken Spencer another good coach was fired after two seasons. You need time to recruit. She brought back Blow and he left again. I too am a former athlete. Coach Heartley coached what 30 years? Get rid of Suber please!!!!!!!

This irrelevant college- not university continues to make decisions that flat out make no sense. Maybe the real story is not being told, but how can you justify releasing a coach who was hired after the school year began. That means no recruitment! As a former falcon athlete, I'm disappointed and embarrassed to the point where all my paraphernalia has been giving away to people who need clothing. I do not see what the board of directors or who ever has the say/ authority to determine the future of the president. The school is clearly going downhill, with no vision to rebound from tough times like a normal institution led by a president and administration who cares about the well being of the current student and future. This place is beyond pathetic. If you do not believe me, just ask former educators and students; there is a reason alumni do not go back and support. GET A NEW PRESIDENT!!!

They should get RID of Dr. Suber instead of Coach Sheals...she is a lame duck!
