Saint Augustine’s University ended the volleyball regular season with a 3-0 loss to Fayetteville State University at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2012.

Three St. Aug players were honored during the match on Senior Night. A brief ceremony was held between the second and third sets for seniors Abeje Carrington (St. George, Barbados), Brittany Hicks (Louisburg, N.C.), and Tiana Morris (Raleigh, N.C.). Hicks, an All-CIAA player during her career with the Lady Falcons, finished with four kills which tied for second-most on the team. Victoria Davis (Jr./San Diego, Calif.) led the Lady Falcons with five kills and nine digs while Julieesa Thomas (Fr./St. Croix, US VI) added four kills, eight assists and five digs.

Despite the loss, the Lady Falcons (6-21 overall, 6-10 CIAA, 3-7 Southern Division) are headed to the CIAA Tournament this weekend as the fourth seed out of the Southern Division. The Lady Broncos, the Southern Division champions, will enter the tournament as the top seed out of the division after closing the regular season unbeaten in the conference (23-5 overall, 16-0 CIAA, 10-0 Southern Division).

The Lady Broncos displayed their size and power hitting against the Lady Falcons, winning 25-19, 25-17, 25-12. Joylene Thompson paced a balanced attack with eight kills followed by Joi Emanuel with seven kills and Taylor Norris with six kills. Shavon Shaw and Nikita Cheadle added five kills for the Lady Broncos, who posted a .239 attack percentage compared to minus .077 for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons failed to win the final regular-season match, but the tournament provides new life. Last year, the Lady Falcons won the CIAA title as the third seed out of the Southern Division. They hope for the same result this weekend in Hampton, Va. The tournament will be held Friday, Nov. 16 thru Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
