State Gymnastics Posts Season-Best 196.100

— The NC State gymnastics team posted a season-best score of 196.100 on Friday, finishing first in its quad meet against Maryland, Pittsburgh and William & Mary inside Reynolds Coliseum.

“The kids are starting to put everything together and make their routines look the way we would like them to look,” said head coach Mark Stevenson. “We still have a few areas in which we can improve, but we’re really proud of the kids and pleased with our performance tonight.”

The Panthers finished second overall with a score of 195.075, while Maryland finished third with a 194.750 and the Tribe finished fourth with a 193.400.

The Pack opened the meet on vault, where the squad totaled a 49.150. Sophomore Brittni Watkins led the way with a 9.925 to tie her career-best mark to finish first overall, while Diahanna Ham posted a score of 9.875 to finish second. Seniors Stephanie Ouellette and Hannah Fallanca each tallied scores of 9.800. In addition, Courtney Leighton made her NC State debut in the event with a score of 9.750, while Lane Jarred also notched a 9.750 to round out the scores.

The squad next moved to the uneven parallel bars, where Watkins led the way with a score of 9.850 to finish first overall and Kristen Harabedian scored above a 9.800 for the second straight meet with a 9.825 to place second. In addition, Ouellette and Michaela Woodford each notched a 9.750, as the squad scored a 48.800 on the event.

At the midway point of the meet, the Wolfpack was in first place with a score of 97.950, while Maryland (97.400), Pittsburgh (97.050) and William & Mary (96.925) each trailed.

On the balance beam, Fallanca led the squad with a score of 9.825 to finish second on the podium, while Ham posted a 9.800. Meanwhile, Jarred notched a 9.775, while Ouellette and Watkins each tallied scores of 9.700. As a team, State posted a 48.900 on the apparatus.

The Wolfpack concluded the evening on the floor exercise where the squad posted a season-best mark of 49.250. Ouellette and Watkins led the way with a score of 9.875 to share first place on the podium, while Harabedian and Jarred each notched a 9.850 to share third. In addition, Aubrey Hine scored a 9.800 and Fallanca rounded out the scores with a 9.700.

In the all-around competition, Watkins finished atop the podium with a 39.400, while Ouellette finished second with a 39.175. Jarred also competed as an all-arounder with a 39.000.

Up next, the Wolfpack will return to action on Friday, March 7, as it travels to Baton Rouge, La., for a meet at top-ranked LSU. The competition is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
