North Carolina’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept dual meets with the U.S. Naval Academy Saturday afternoon at Lejeune Hall.

The UNC men’s team won 175.5-124.5 while the women prevailed by a score of 213-84.

The meet was swum in a unique short course meters format for a college dual.

The Tar Heel women were dominant, winning 14 of the 16 events. Nine different Tar Heel women won individual events. The Heels were led by senior Katie Nolan and sophomore Danielle Siverling who each won two individual events and swam on a winning relay. Nolan took both the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly while Siverling notched wins in both the 100 and 200 freestyles. Freshman Emma Nunn took a pair of individual wins, garnering first place in the 200 meter fly and 400 meter IM. Both senior Carly Smith and sophomore Nikki Barczak won individual events and swam on winning relays.

The men’s meet was a bit tighter with UNC prevailing on the strength of two relay wins and nine individual wins. A cadre of freshmen led the Tar Heels. Ozzie Moyer swept the diving events for Carolina and Matt Kwatyra seized wins in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM. First-year Nic Graesser swam on both winning relays for Carolina and took first in the 100 backstroke. Juniors J.T. Stilley (200 freestyle and 400 free relay) and Kyle Ficker (two relay wins) also helped lead the Tar Heels to the win.

Carolina will be in action again next Saturday when it swims at the University of Virginia. The men’s meet begins at noon and the women’s meet at 3 p.m.

The 17th-ranked Tar Heel men improved to 4-0 in dual meets this season while the 15th-ranked women are now 3-1 on the campaign.
