T&F: St. Aug atop NCAA D-II Track rankings for third straight week

Raleigh, N.C. — Saint Augustine’s University is No. 1 in the NCAA Division II Men’s Track & Field Poll for the third consecutive week. The rankings were released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013.
The Falcons rank above No. 2 Adams State by a slim edge, 203.51 to 203.42, in the computerized rankings. Ashland is ranked third with 199.27 points. In the women’s rankings, Grand Valley State is first, Lincoln (Mo.) is second and Academy of Art is third.
The Falcons are the top-ranked men’s team in the Atlantic Region for the fifth straight week. Shippensburg is second and Lock Haven is third. On the women’s side, the Lady Falcons rank third in the Atlantic Region. Shippensburg is the top-ranked team and Kutztown is second.
Individually, the Falcons are ranked first in four men’s events. Dane Hyatt (Jr./Goodwill, Jamaica) continues his reign as the nation’s fastest D-II sprinter in the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. He is also part of the top-ranked 4x400 relay team which includes Joshua Edmonds (Jr./Jacksonville, Fla.), James Quarles (Jr./Washington, D.C.) and Burkhead Ellis, Jr. (Fr./Raleigh, N.C.). Moussa Dembele (Jr./Dakar, Senegal) maintains his grip on the top spot in the 60 hurdles.
Anaquan Peterson (Fr./Suffolk, Va.) ranks third and DeJon Wilkinson (Jr./Summerville, S.C.) is fourth in the men’s triple jump. Jermaine Jones (Fr./Wilmington, N.C.) is fourth in the 200 and ninth in the 60. Marcelis Lynch (Jr./Stone Mountain, Ga.) is sixth in the 800 and Gerkenz Senesca (Sr./Newark, N.J.) is sixth in the 60 hurdles. Edmonds ranks eighth in the 400 and ninth in the 200.
Among the women, the 4x400 relay team of Zikeena Parker (Fr./Rocky Mount, N.C.), Brittany Brown (So./Akron, Ohio), Sherri-Ann Ashman (So./Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kelly Shaw (Sr./Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) is ranked fourth. Shamia Lassiter (Fr./Chesapeake, Va.) is 10th in the 60 hurdles.
The Falcons and Lady Falcons are scheduled to compete again Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at the George Mason Last Chance meet in Fairfax, Va. The meet starts at 10 a.m.
