Chapel Hill, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels will play three regular-season basketball games against their UNC-Greensboro counterparts over the next three seasons, the teams announced Thursday.
The teams have never met on the basketball court.
The first game sees the Spartans traveling to Chapel Hill Dec. 7. UNC will be the road team in Greensboro during the 2014-15 season and the Spartans return to the Dean Smith Center in the 2015-16 season. Dates for the second and third contests have yet to be set.
The Spartans, who play in the Southern Conference, are 8-20 in head coach Wes Miller's first season. Miller, who was the youngest head coach in Division I when he was elevated from assistant in December 2011, played at UNC under Roy Williams and was a team captain in his senior year (2007).
In a statement Thursday, Williams said, "If we can help one of our former players who is coaching another team, that is also great for our program. Wes is a great young coach who did a fabulous job as a player at North Carolina and is an important part of our UNC family. We look forward to competing against his teams."

RE: Tar Heels agree to three games against UNCG
DeMent wasn't terrible. he led UNCG to their first ever NCAA appearance in the mid 90's, and had a stretch there where UNCG was 1st or 2nd in Big South. Once they went to Southern Conference, he moved on to New Mexico. Fran McCaffrey replaced him and did ok there before moving on.
Dement's 2nd run at UNCG wasn't too good.
And let's be clear about one thing. The ONLY reason unc agrees to play UNCG at their home court is because that is the Greensboro Coliseum. Up until a few years ago UNCG played its home games on campus at Fleming Gym. Bigger games wee played at the Coliseum.
I for one will be cheering hard for the Spartans against unc. 3 reasons:
1) I am a UNCG alum (and was there when they were at their peak)
2) Lifelong NC State fan....so naturally that leads to
3) I dispise all things unc
Go Spartans!

UNC could play anyone any time. They are one of the most desired match up for any team to play a home game. They are playing this game because Miller is a former UNC player. This is not the only team Roy has done this for. Your big problem is your number 2 and 3. It clouds any objective thinking you may have swimming around in that pig pen you call a brain.

Pigpen of a brain? Wow - how long did it take for you to come up with that one?
I will be everything I have that if UNCG did not have access to play at Greensboro Coliseum, that unc would not play them there. They may get a game at unc, but never at UNCG. Fleming holds abut 1500 people when it's filled to capacity. ABout the size of a high school gym.
And yes - Roy is throwing his former player a bone - and let me be clear - I think it's great! State does it every year with UNCA. But if the coach at UNCG wasn't a former unc alum, I don't see it happeneing.
Now excuse me - I must go roll around in the mud and wallow in filth....or I could just go see the recent unc grads at McDonalds and Walmart.

For you to make this type of statement only proves that your ignorance runs deep! Only someone who is mentally challenged would use your logic and trend of thought!

Except for the Big10 challenge, UNC has not played a road game against a major college in the last 2 years. But its not the major schools that UNC is afraid to play on the road, its the smaller schools also. They couldn't handle the embarrassment if they would lose to one of those schools.

How good does Roy and UNC basketball now look to recruits by taking care of those who played for him. Hired Jackie Manuel and Bobby Frasor fews years ago too. You can't pay your players while they are playing for you, but it is certainly legal to pay them afterward. Just his way of saying, one way or another, we can take care of you. Good opportunity for Wes and Roy looks good too - win-win.

Shocking that basketball players on the D-1 level from a program like UNC would be interested in coaching. And, ummm, hey State College Recreation grad, you ever looked at Coach K's bench?

Um, no, dook does not schedule road games. Instead, they request for a "neutral site" with the claim that they want it more like a ncaa tournament game. Of course, the most famous attempt was the "home and home" vs. Arizona. Arizona was supposed to go to Cameron for year 1 and then play their "home" game in the Meadowlands in New Jersey! Lute Olsen cancelled the series immediately upon notification of this tidbit from cbs.

kay was just looking out for the health of the dook fans. can you imagine the sunburns the dook fans would have had if they had traveled to arizona.
