Tar Heels, RailHawks to play exhibition

Posted August 6

The University of North Carolina will host the Carolina Railhawks in an exhibition men’s soccer match on Monday, Aug. 18 at Fetzer Field beginning at 7 p.m.

While admission is free, donations will be collected to support the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund.

Kirk Urso captained the Tar Heel soccer team to the 2011 national championship. After being selected 10th overall in the 2012 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft, Urso died suddenly at the age of 22 on Aug. 5, 2012 of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy.

The Memorial Fund that carries his name provides a platform to develop and support youth heart health research and programming focused on congenital heart defects and sudden cardiac death in youth to honor the memory of Urso.

Urso was admired for his unwavering work ethic and steadfast character both on and off the field.
