The Mitchell Report: A 7 footer, Golson and the Spurs
Posted May 26, 2013
Thoughts on the sports world I can't share in a 5 minute sportscast. Some Triangle news. Some not.
The 7 foot Freshman
Meet Thon Maker . You may be hearing a lot about him in the next few years. He's a high school freshman who is already 200 pounds and 7 feet tall. Best part is, he can play. Let the drooling begin. Thon already has an offer from Mark Gottfried and NC State. He appears destined to have his pick of college basketball's best.
Very surprised to hear the news about Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson this weekend. I got a chance to cover the kid in high school and he was a squeaky clean as they come. I remember when he committed to North Carolina to play for Butch Davis. He promptly decommitted when UNC looked like it would have some NCAA trouble. Golson appeared to have the talent to be a star in the upcoming years but there's now a good chance we won't see him on the field at Notre Dame again.
Can you think of any team in professional sports more consistent and successful yet as unpopular as the San Antonio Spurs? I'm not saying people don't like them. I'm saying they aren't beloved. They don't have the super flashy star. Tim Duncan is awesome but he's quiet and stays away from controversy. The Spurs have been described by some as "boring". I don't find their play boring at all. They just eat away at opponents by being better fundamentally. It's very pretty basketball. I grew up a Jazz fan and I always hated the Spurs because they were so good in the West. That was about 15 years ago and they are still going. Fun to watch.
Rod Plummer used a different strategy to become a sports agent. It's worked out pretty well for him.
Speaking of agents. Looks like Jay-Z takes care of his clients. Skylar Diggins gets a new car.
This is an awesome read for college football fans. The "Freaks list". You won't be surprised who is number one.
Ever wanted to just take something back? Lee Trevino does. You may be surprised what he'd like to erase from his life.
