Thoughts on the sports world I can't share in a 5 minute sportscast. Some Triangle news. Some not.
Bilas Speaks out
It is no surprise to see Jay Bilas defending the student athlete in the PJ Hairtson situation. Bilas is on a crusade to show the hypocrisy of the NCAA. The former Duke player had this to say on twitter:
Worst part of PJ Hairston saga is school and NCAA alone decide result. Player has no right to be heard, or seek reinstatement. That's wrong.— Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) December 21, 2013
NCAA and UNC haven't forgotten PJ Hairston, still selling his jersey for $75 or $120. Always there for athletes. http://t.co/cxBR2aSGsA— Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) December 21, 2013
Do you agree?
I remember hearing all of the rumblings about firing Ron Rivera and thinking "I hope they keep him. He's such a likeable guy." I wasn't using my football sense at the time, just my human sense which likes the man. I am thrilled to see him doing so well now. The Panthers are relevant again and we haven't had a chance to say that since Jake Delhomme was in Charlotte. Rivera proved he wasn't too stubborn to make adjustments in his coaching style and now his team is headed to the playoffs. Not too many guys would have had the guts to change.
That doesn't sound like a very good idea for Christmas dinner. I was distraught when I found out the statue of Maryland's Testudo was on fire earlier this week. As the tradition goes, students leave things at the statue during exams. Apparently something caught fire setting the poor turtle ablaze. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured.
-If you are watching the NBA on Christmas day you will notice a bunch of teams wearing the new jerseys with sleeves. LeBron James is one of the many players against this saying he doesn't want the sleeves to bother the shooters on the team. Guys are used to wearing regular basketball jerseys. Not sure why the sleeves are being pushed so hard.
- Impressive start for Wes Moore at NC State. He's got the Pack at 11-1 after beating a very good ranked LSU team this week. Very curious to see how this team stacks up come ACC play.
-LA Kings Goalie Martin Jones has won the first 8 games of his career. The rookie is one of only two goalies to start his career 8-0.
I feel like all of the stories I post here are worth your time, but I especially like these two.
Tom Izzo pays tribute to a long time referee during the final minutes of a game.
A wonderful gesture by the Southern Miss football coach for his graduating seniors.
