The Mitchell Report: Red hair, great pitching and LeBron

Posted June 2, 2013

Thoughts on the sports world I can't share in a 5 minute sportscast. Some Triangle news. Some not.

 Say What?

The Major League Baseball draft is coming up later this month and UNC's Colin Moran is expected to be a high draft pick. But his hair color may be a turnoff to some scouts. I was just as surprised as you. According to this article , there are questions about players with red hair. My advice to scouts, buy some hair dye if it'll make you feel better. Moran can play.

College Baseball

We have been treated to some outstanding pitching in the Triangle this weekend. NC State's Carlos Rodon was once again special in his Regional win on Saturday. The guy really looks unhittable when he is on. He was hitting 96 on the gun in the 9th. UNC's Hobbs Johnson pitched 6 innings of no-hit ball before he was yanked after walking his fifth batter of the game. The Heels went on to lose the game but he showed some stuff that can get the team to Omaha. I see both teams getting to the College World Series. That kind of pitching usually does the trick.

Just Another Team

LeBron James took offense when Pacers head coach Frank Vogel called the Heat "Just another team" standing between Indiana and the title. He said Miami wasn't "just another team". He said they were a "great team". They are, but it looks like the Pacers are too and they may be better. I am always amused in sports when we name a team the champ before they have earned it. I will be rooting for the Pacers in Game 7. I would love to see Vogel talk about how the Spurs are just another team in the way.

^^^ Thanks. Good points. LeBron had a solid defensive player on him last night. Other players need to step up. The Spurs plenty of time to rest their legs, and had loads of energy vs the Heat.

Considering what they got in the trade of Harden, they did the right thing. If they didn't trade him, they wouldn't be able to afford to re-sign him then they lose him without getting anything in return. By trading him when they did, they now get 2 additional 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick in this year's draft....

Traded James Harden, Lazar Hayward, Cole Aldrich and Daequan Cook to the Houston Rockets for Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and draft picks. The picks received include a pair of 2013 first-round picks from the Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks, along with a 2013 second from the Charlotte Bobcats.

Yes Sir. I agree with that statement. They let Hardin leave, and look at what he did this season. Organizaions worrying about a million or two, and when a solid player goes down, it cleans the slate too often, especially in allowing a super player to leave town. Had they had kept Hardin they may have made it, IMO. Westbrook and Durant are the best duo in the NBA.

I'd LOVE to see the Pacers win tonight, but I don't think it will happen. Hate that the game is being played in South Beach.

I have a lot of respect for LeBron. He does whatever it takes to win and doesn't let his ego get in the way of winning the game.

If you judge greatness by the number of rings, MJ wins so far, but who knows how many King James will have when he's done.

  • Toddler10-21 Jun 3, 2013

Hokie if Westbrook were playing it would be a game 7 out west also.

  • VT1994Hokie Jun 3, 2013

There is a lot of great talent from State and UNC. Rodon has done one of the best jobs that I've seen in a long time. Johnson has done his job as well. Walking 5 yesterday forced a change. Moran has a bright future.

I didn't have much respect for LeBron after his "Decision" situation. But, when Coach K and the team won a Gold Medal again, I gained a new respect for LeBron. Not too many had the Pacers taking it to game 7. They could snag one in Miami. My favorite team is Oklahoma City.

  • Toddler10-21 Jun 3, 2013

They don't have to complain because you and the media do it for them. Bosh can't handle west, or hibbert when healthy. Grainger is also out for the pacers. Wonder how the heat would feel if lebron ever leave south beach? The bandwagon heat fans will follow I guess? Mj is the greatest ever so stop talking! Mj never lost in the finals! Just a few days ago the media were making heat/spurs predictions, and the series was 2-2. Why not pull for thehome town kid( west) instead of pulling for Miami because battier went to duke?

  • 903 PJ trusted Rodney Blackstock Jun 3, 2013

Pathetic statement. The Heat have obviously been affected by Wade and Bosh's injuries. Despite that, none of the Heat players or coaches have once used injury as an excuse, Lebron is showing that he's the best ever to play the game, the hate he received for "The Decision" was completely overblown, and they still have home court for Game 7 despite them not being close to 100%.

  • Toddler10-21 Jun 3, 2013

Anybody but the heat. LeBron the heat are not a great team. You have to win more than one title. I agree the nba will give Miami a few assists tonight.

  • StunGunn Jun 3, 2013

Never heard the red hair bias before, but I sure hope Moran comes through for the Heels tonight!

I wish the game was in Indianapolis tonight because I don't see the Heat losing a Game 7 at home. I give the Pacers a ton of credit for pushing the Heat to the brink.

I don't like "The Donald", but he's right about this Country being too PC. This is about the only time I'll ever agree with Trump
