The Mitchell Report: Ticket prices and the color blue
Posted August 25, 2013
Thoughts on the sports world I can't share in a 5 minute sportscast. Some Triangle news. Some not.
Happy 1 year Birthday to "The Mitchell Report". I'm almost as excited about this as the N'Sync reunion. Really.
HD tv is awesome and it's hot outside
Virginia Tech is in serious jeopardy of losing its home game sellout streak. The Hokie program is very proud of this. They have an ACC-Best 93 game streak dating back to the 1998 season. It seems even Hokie fans enjoy the comfort of the couch, a cold beer and the HD tv. That, and tickets are pricey. This is nothing new. Fans have been trending this way for YEARS, but when it starts to hit schools with tradition of selling out, you know there's a serious issue. It's hard to find a solution to this problem as schools continue to raise prices and TVs get better. Dollar beer games? Anyone?
Tickets are expensive!
While we are on the subject of going to games, ever wonder what the most expensive college football ticket it? Forbes helped us out with a list this week. Not a huge surprise that Notre Dame tops the list. That stadium still has a serious tradition factor to it. I'm no Notre Dame fan, but that's on my bucket list. NC State is the only ACC school on the list with an average ticket price of $118. That's definitely a win for the Pack.
No blue for you
So Urban Meyer isn't allowing NFL scouts to wear blue when they are on the Ohio State campus because that is a "Michigan color". I love rivalries. I love silly stuff about rivalries like stealing of mascot heads. This, is just kind of stupid. I understand colors are a big deal to folks. Trust me, I could write a book with the amount of e-mails from people I've gotten over the years. "You were wearing red, you are CLEARLY a State homer." "Mandy looooves to wear her Duke blue."...I assure you, I choose clothes based on if I like them, not if they match the color of your team. I am assuming the same goes for the NFL scouts. The guys are professionals who are doing their jobs and they get roped into a game for Urban and his players. You want to make this a rule for fans at practice? Awesome. The scouts? Come on...
Your guide to Columbia
Instead of the "Worth Reading" section this week I will give you a short guide to Columbia if you are planning to make the trip to the game this week. I worked there for 3 years, so I know the city.
**Restaurants: Pawleys Front Porch--Awesome burgers. My favorite spot in the city. Yesterday's--Good southern food. Mr. Friendly's --Higher end southern food.
**After the game: Stick to the Vista unless you are a college student. 5 points is for coeds.
**Traffic on game day will be very very very bad, and the city has a bad habit of letting trains park in the middle of the road for about 30 minutes making it a mess. Plan to leave early.
