Who would you draft based on videogame performance?
Posted May 8
The NFL Draft, easily the greatest non-event in sports, takes place in New York City on Thursday night. All eyes will be on Johnny Manziel and Jadeveon Clowney as they wait in the green room for their names to be called by commissioner Roger Goodell.
Intangibles. High motor. Explosive. Locker room guy. Tweener. Physicality. Gamer.
But will any of these guys become legendary in video games? Sure, Manziel or Clowney could grace the cover of the popular Madden series by EA Sports. However, it takes talent granted by an overzealous game programmer or an overlooked glitch to become one of the all-time great virtual athletes.
Those who were in high school in the 90s speak of Bo Jackson and Christian Okoye from "Tecmo Super Bowl" in tones of reverence. College dorms in the last decade were the center of heated contests, where players had their secret weapons who could automatically knock down 3-pointers in "NBA Live" or dunk from the top of the key in "Lakers vs. Bulls."
In honor of these digital legends, we present our draft of the best athletes ever to play in a video game.
