Oct. 6, 2006 – Tom O’Brien is hired at NC State, signs 7-year deal that pays $1.1 million annually
Sept. 1, 2007 – O’Brien loses his NC State debut 25-23 at home to Central Florida.
Nov. 10, 2007 – NC State beats UNC 31-27 in O’Brien’s debut of the rivalry.
Nov. 24, 2007 – NC State misses a bowl game in O’Brien’s first year by losing the season finale to Maryland, 37-0. They finish the season 5-7.
Nov. 8-29, 2008 – NC State wins four consecutive games to close the season and reach their first bowl game under O’Brien.
Dec. 29, 2008 – NC State loses to Rutgers 29-23 in the PapaJohns.com Bowl
Nov. 28, 2009 – NC State defeats UNC 28-27 to close the season. It is their third consecutive win over the Tar Heels, but a 1-7 stretch during the season leaves the Wolfpack out of a bowl game.
June 25, 2010 – Debbie Yow is announced as the new director of athletics at NC State replacing Lee Fowler.
Dec. 28, 2010 – NC State beats West Virginia 23-7 in the Champs Sports Bowl to cap a 9-4 season.
Nov. 3, 2011 - Leading up to the rivalry game with UNC, O'Brien and Tar Heels coach Everett Withers trade verbal jabs in which O'Brien refers to 'the flagship that ends up in Indianapolis, referring to NCAA violations.
Nov. 5, 2011 – NC State shuts out UNC 13-0 for their fifth consecutive win in the rivalry. It is just the second time in program history the Wolfpack have accomplished the feat (1988-92).
Dec. 27, 2011 – NC State defeats Louisville 31-24 in the Belk Bowl to finish 8-5 on the year. For O’Brien, it is his 8th bowl win in 10 tries giving him the highest win percentage of any coach in the bowl era with at least 10 appearances.
Oct, 20, 2012 – NC State wins at Maryland 20-18. For O’Brein it is his first and only win against an ACC Atlantic Division team (1-14)
Oct. 27, 2012 – UNC tops NC State 43-35 after scoring 18 fourth quarter points highlighted by a Giovani Bernard punt return for a touchdown with just 13 seconds remaining. It is the first Wolfpack loss in the rivalry since 2006.
Nov. 10, 2012 – NC State beats Wake Forest 37-6 to become bowl eligible for the third consecutive season and the fourth time in five years under O’Brien.
Nov. 25, 2012 – Despite winning a program best 24 games in a three-year span, O’Brien is fired by Yow. Dana Bible is named the interim head coach for the upcoming bowl game.
