— NC State sophomore Tyler Lewis has decided to transfer, NC State athletic communications said Friday.

"I'd like to thank NC State, my teammates and coaches, and the Wolfpack Nation for the past two years. While I will be finishing my career at another school, I will always be grateful for the opportunity I had at NC State," Lewis said in the release.

The 5-11 point guard started 18 games for NC State this season, including the last 14 contests of the season. Lewis averaged 4.4 points and 3.8 assists per game.

"I wish Tyler the best," NC State head coach Mark Gottfried said.

Maybe State will stop recruiting the kids of friends of the program, and recruit talent. Look at the bench vs. what's on the floor, the talent pool is not very good at all. At the end of the day, even a good system needs players. I guess the Purvis transfer doesn't look so shocking. I too heard that Cat is transferring. TJ got better some because of Gott, but really TJ was being recruited by Lowe, while got continued the recruitment, and TJ chose to still come to State. Wake up Pack Land, recruiting kids to pay back favors, doesn't mean you're recruiting talent, and surely can't win with them.

I would disagree with that point. Yes, TJ would have gotten his points. But after the 2013 season concluded, Gott publicly talked about TJ's need to improve other parts of his game, particularly rebounding. To TJ's credit, he obviously took those comments to heart. His productivity on defense and his ability to grab rebounds at key times was overshadowed by his offensive prowess. Gott deserves credit too for designing an offense that allowed TJ to be efficient on the offensive end. Compliments as well to TJ's unselfish teammates, who set picks and delivered the ball to TJ time after time.

Trevor Lacey, who transferred from Alabama and sat out this year, is a combo guard who will compete for serious PT.

Not sure Gott did much for TJ. He is s superior talent and was going to flourish anyway.

Don't think so unless one of the Martin twins can play the point.

Is that all Gottfried had to say...or did WRAL use selective quoting?

If kids nowadays cannot step their game up and improve from one year to the next what do they expect? Coaches recruit every year for all positions on the team. I for one will not miss him because it shows he has a "give up and quit" type attitude.

Your right, just more of thinking of what might have been vs what will be. In the long run, its a factory of players. If you look at the last 3 years. State has done a good job. You want people to succeed. Looking at Baseball, Womens Basketball and Mens Basketball, we are better than were we use to be. Hopefully Football will be there. Wresling will be good example of things to come.

Maybe, State needs to start recruiting the "one and done" group. Even Coach K is doing it. Just thinks KY coach would have come to State, if they had let him recruit the one and done group. But, then again do you really want him as a coach?
