Of course... Carolina is always great in August, right? No different this year I can see from the faithful like you. They'll probably go undefeated, won't they? Fedora is the best coach in the country. The problem with the arrogant yet not so bright Carolina fan like you is that your early season predictions haven't been coming to fruition. Even when Carolina sold their soul and hired Butch and let their players avoid the burden of class work to try to win... they still couldn't do it. Enjoy your 4-8 season.

• cole1949 Sep 3, 2012

How can you say nc st. is the best of the three when they have not played unc yet and never have duke on the scheldule, which i realize is no fault of states just sorry acc schelduling. UNC , State and Duke should play each other every year in football and twice in BB.

• citylefty Sep 3, 2012

One week, however good or bad, does not a season make. The best team of the 3 lost while the other two won. Don't worry. State will win enough (8) to make a Bowl game, Carolina will win 7 but doesn't qualify anyway so forget them while Duke's schedule is just too tough for them to make it to a bowl. They'll win 4, maybe 5.

Go get em Mike. UNC beat Elon like a good team is supposed to beat them. How often have the haters in the past raged about UNC not playing to their full potential against a team like Elon? Fedora's intensity and focus was evident in the team performance.

• StunGunn Sep 3, 2012

I don't care who Carolina played, they looked a lot better than they have in past years. They showed discipline and focus, things that were lacking under Bunting and Davis. The Louisville game will answser questions left unanswered by playing Elon.

I'm happy for Coach Cut and Duke - they deserve success, and I hope this is their year to make a bowl.

As for State, it was one game. Glennon is a good QB, and he'll have a better showing, starting with the UCONN game.

• StunGunn Sep 3, 2012

Agreed. I had no idea Louisville was this good. The next game against WF is a step up from Elon, so some questions may be answered, but Louisville will be a big test for Carolina.

• Toddler10-21 Sep 3, 2012

Thank you By Deacons. Well said. I agree 100%! You answer questions by beating the # 8 team in the country on a neutral field! Not beating the heck out of Elon! Fedoria please dont let your guys look at the game film. The post game interviews from the players were unreal. One of the UNC guys said that UNC football was back. Back from what? As for Glennon, give him time, and he will kill you. Pressure him, and he will make a mistake, or get sacked.

Here's the answer. Shut up about cupcakes. Your team loss. Get over it. They will lose again. Get use to it. That's a fact.

• Lost and Loaded Sep 3, 2012

Looks like the dead pool for Herb Sendek, I mean TOB..has already begun. Will he make it to the end of the year? If State starts 2-4 - probably not. This year's edition did anything but impress against a weak top 30 team. UCONN game has gone from cupcake to must win against a team that looks much improved from last year. After UCONN NCSU catches a 2 week break facing smaller schools, followed up by Miami/FSU, both of which look too strong for NCSU to overcome.
UCONN will be the make or break game for the WolfPack and TOB's job.

Lose to UCONN and State is staring a 5-7 season right in the face, 6-6 if they manage to beat a good looking UNC team.

• Mike Maniscalco Sep 2, 2012

The answer is they looked like a team that is focused on football, and glorified high school team or not, when you line up against someone trying to stop you for real, running an offense you never ran before there should be some hiccups. I didn't see any did you. So when they lined it up, the Heels took care of their business, in years past this team didn't also look that convincing against FCS opponents.

You can knock the win all you want, but they answered the question for me, they played with a full understanding of the gameplan, and the O-coordinator called plays that worked.

This doesn't mean a national title (I know, they aren't eligible) But my question was how would the new schemes look and in a results oriented business they looked pretty good. You want to argue with the numbers go ahead.

Will it look that good against a better class of opponent? Probably not, but one thing is for sure, that is not John Shoop's offense, and truth be known, they looked a helluva lot better than most everyone expected.

That was the answer I took out of the game.

I'm not actually making fun of Carolina for playing a weak team (in my words, a glorified high school team). I'm asking the simple question of the author, what could Carolina possibly have answered from this game???

They might be good. They might not be good. But beating the pants off Elon does NOT answer any questions.

• packfan1752 Sep 2, 2012

1 team played a nobody, 1 team played dead bodies, one team played an SEC team away from home.

No one has answers. That is the fact.

State moved the ball against Tenn. That is a fact. a lot of good things were seen, as were a lot of bad things. Had UNC or Duke played a team like Tenn, something tells me they wouldn't look as good as they did against FIU or Elon.

• DeathRow-IFeelYourPain-NOT Sep 2, 2012

I would have posted this earlier. But I just got back from the game tonight. Had a blast. Did anyone see me? I was the one wearing orange and singing Rocky Top ALL NIGHT LONG!

• DeathRow-IFeelYourPain-NOT Sep 2, 2012

Last week a few on here argued with me and said that Tennessee "settled" on Tyler Bray as their QB when he was a freshmen. Basically saying Tyler Bray wasn't in Glennon's league and Tennessee didn't have anything better. So they "settled" on Tyler Bray. My argument was that Tyler Bray was brought in as a potential starter from the start. He WAS that good. And obviously, he's STILL that good. Whoever you were/are, hope you're enjoying your weekend after Bray TORCHED your Defense. And I kept hearing for weeks how Amerson and the State D would eat Tyler Bray alive and pick him off left and right. Again, hope you're enjoying your weekend after the Tennessee D obliterated Glennon for FOUR pics. And I kept hearing how the Tennessee passing game would be horrible because they lost ONE receiver. Did you forget that they don't refer to Tennessee as "Wide Receiver U" for nothing. Those supposedly mediocre receivers made Amerson look like a D-II player. But you were right. Tyler Bray is NOT in Glennon's league. Tyler Bray is playing D-I football. I can't say that for Glennon or Amerson.

• Rapid Deployment Sep 2, 2012

I've seen UNC play "nobodies" before, teams they should have beaten just like they beat Elon-----but they didn't always get the job done. Granted Elon was outmanned, but UNC was focused on about every play, every phase of the game. You have to give them credit for that. All of our fav teams play their share of weaklings over the course of the season. But you still have to "play the games". This week, they did that. Sorry State couldn't quite get it done against Tenn. I think Coach Cutcliffe gave the best explanation this past week about why it's so hard to compete against the SEC teams. You go from games where 45000 to 65000 fans attend to non-conference games where 90,000 to 100,000 fans are screaming their heads off. The top recruits confirm this as well. When they make their visits to many of these schools, it's like going to Super Bowl atmosphere every week. Those of us who pull for in state schools are going to have to wait until our schools can consistently beat Va Tech and Fla State before we can expect to beat the bullies of the SEC.

• mattcmiller Sep 2, 2012

Felt Bad for State Fans. It would have been great for them to start the season big! UNC did what they were supposed to do.

Any Duke win is a big one. After living through the winless seaons, a win on opening day is awesome! Let's hope we can win in the ACC!

1 - that this season will be fun
2 - that they appear to be more disciplined than recent teams
3 - that we have no business playing teams like Elon. But, that's the way of the world these days. Teams like that make a lot of money playing BCS teams, so they jump at the opportunity. And they can't all play State. There's just not enough room on State's schedule, so occasionally, someone else has to play them.

Dook beat the same FIU team last season. What bowl were they in again.?

• VT1994Hokie Sep 2, 2012

I watched L'ville and K'tucky. L'ville had 466 total yards vs 373 for K. Rushing was solid for L'ville at 219 vc 93. K had two TO's. Time of possesion was huge in this one. L'ville 36 vs 23 minutes for K'Tucky. UNC will find out in this one. WF is several steps above Elon, but they didn't do much against Liberty. Wake has 4 new OL. This was the telling weakness for WF. Grobe is smart and they will be much better next time out.

• Ken D. Sep 2, 2012

Judging by Louisville's performance, I'd say Carolina will learn a lot in a couple of weeks. Until we see Tennessee play somebody else, we can't tell much about how State stacks up. That's how it is at the start of every new season.

• Deacons Sep 2, 2012

UNC played nobody yesterday. Questions will be answered when the competition improves. Alabama answered some questions last night, that is the way you answer questions, by beating a good team. As for Glennon, I said last year and I will say it again, if you give him time he will beat you but if teams put pressure on him he will make mistakes. He cannot run his way out of the pressure and he makes some bad throws.

I find it quite funny to read comments from State fan about scheduling. State is notorious for playing "glorified HS teams" and then hearing all the howls about how great the Pack played.

As for the title of the article, it was meant to bring out the "red rager".....if you actually read the article one would notice the quality of opponent was mentioned.

I'm looking forward to next week when the UCONN Huskies whup the Pack and ensuing meltdown of the world worst fanbase.

• InTheNo Sep 2, 2012

Yeah, UNC learned that they can beat the local High School teams. Duke learned they have something to build on to compete in their own league. State's questions are if they don't give up a couple of big plays and make a few first game mistakes, can they beat a good Tennessee team or other SEC team later this season in a bowl game that they will be eligible to compete in.

Amerson got burned twice by a JUCO transfer who the Pack really couldn't scout at Division I level and he was much better than advertised. He'll be someplace on Sundays next year. The Pack has a lot of work to do and this should serve as a bitter wake up call.

• Chasing the Dream Sep 2, 2012

It's always tough to open with an SEC opponent (thanks, Clemson for saving some ACC face). State knew they would be tested and found out right away what they need to work on. Hopefully Glennon had some high pressure first game jitters and can settle down from here on. Still don't know but one name of a linebacker, somebody's got to step up.

Don't think UNC answered any questions against Elon. Was a no contest from the moment it was scheduled and nothing to brag about there. We'll get some answers in the next couple of weeks.

For Duke, they know that they can beat somebody they are supposed to beat. That's becoming more of a norm. Baby steps so far but may have some leaps in store. More answers to come.

You are correct. Even with that 30 point explosion in the 2nd quarter, the Duke defense never gave me a comfortable feeling that the game was in hand. The main differences I saw between this game and the end of last season was the appearance of a running game and same great individual plays on critical 3rd and 4th downs by the secondary to end some FIU drives. Juwon Thompson was great and Josh Snead is defenitely back. I am looking forward to Stanford after last night's performance.

• I am not who you think I am Sep 2, 2012

not sure Duke answered many questions, they've always been able to score points. They gave up a ton of yards last night. FIU actually out gained them.

UNC played a poor FCS team not sure what answers they got from that

Elon's answer big paycheck

• DooksucksV.2 Sep 2, 2012

Yep, two wins against weak sisters will be the cure for red rager syndrome. In the meantime, expect nothing but anti-UNC posts from their deranged fan base.

• ACC22 Sep 2, 2012

what excuses will Mark Thomas have for us on Monday? Well you can't count that last int because it was at the end of the game. He had to throw it into a crowd in the end zone. That is one we are sure to hear. Somehow a comparison will be made to UNC. The fact that UNC had NOTHING to do with the State Tennessee game will not matter. We are sure to hear something about attendance. The refs cheated nc state by not giving them 21 points for having 21 thousand at their spring game. State fans still have not figures out attendance does not equal success on the field. If it mattered so much for recruiting State would have won their division by now.
