I actually think the players get to much of the pie. 57% is a lot. By no means am I for a strike. It turns me against a sport each time it happens. 50-50 split would be good. I think the major sports have become bloated and out of touch in salaries. It is just to bad that we the consumer continue to feed the animal.

Bettman and Owners please od not have a lockout. It will make for a long winter.

  • SubwayScoundrel Sep 7, 2012

I know it is "Hip" to blame and hate Bettman and NHL owners but if you are a canes fan, you better hope the owners get someone close to their requirements. Even the players think 57% is too high (or whatever their share % is). Raleigh is growing as a hockey market but we are not a $70M salary hockey city yet and that is where it is headed.

Im ready for some hockey, hope things can be worked out.GO CANES !

    Come on strike...

  • caniacman Sep 7, 2012

kenshi- i would agree if teams did not sign so many players to 6,7,8,9,10 year deals at 6-10 million a season. clearly there is enough revunue for the teams. Bettman is listening to the big teams who do not want to share revunue with the smaller markets. NHLPA has said they would go to a 50-50 share but the owners want it to go down to 42% that is crazy. I think the players would take a 50-50 cut with a slight deduction in salaraies.

I don't see why people don't understand that the player contracts as a percentage of revenue are way too high. What other professional sport spends 57% of revenue on players salaries.. that's right, NONE. I think the NHL was dumb to have made the CBA they did previously. The players should not be getting more than 50% of revenue at best. Don't expect me to cry about the players who are getting paid millions to play a game for people to watch, its the owners that lose money if things don't go right, not the players.

I can't watch the NHL, but love college hockey.

  • tdouble232323 Sep 7, 2012

A lockout will do so some serious damage to the NHL.

  • REALY Sep 7, 2012

Even with the Brothers on the same team they still have a long why to go. No playoffs this year and will be lucky if they see them next year

  • caniacman Sep 7, 2012

The last work stoppage I understood the owners points. This time they make no sense. You cant claim hardship with the contracts signed this offseason. Gary Bettman will be responsible for 3 different work stoppages yet still has a job. Someone on facebook started a great group, Gary Bettman Must Be Fired, is the name of it. I would recommend anyone to join the group if you love hockey.

I have a bad feeling about the season getting started. What a shame, because with Staal and Staal, the Canes are looking good. A lockout will be bad for the teams and owners alike.

I can not wait till Hockey Season !

  • boshartjs Sep 6, 2012

College sports continue to look more and more appealing. GO PACK!! Time for college hockey in the South!

  • wlcat609 Sep 6, 2012

9 Days and counting until September 15th.....prospects for a CBA don't look good...blame this one on the GREEDY NHL owners.....

This might be the best Canes team that no one was able to watch!
