Charlottesville has pretty much been a house of horrors for Carolina; they finally won there two years ago, breaking a long-running streak. I'm with you: I don't expect this year to be any easier for the Heels, especially since they lost to Wake and Duke on the road, teams they could have beaten, but didn't. It should be a good game, and beating State soundly has given UVA confidence, just as beating State has given Carolina confidence.

In defense of those that left... and I have no dog in this hunt... there was a basketball game at PNC Arena right after the game. I don't know, if it was open seating. If it was, that would help explain why all the empty seats so soon. If I'm watching a one-sided game and I have a choice to get a better seat for another event by getting there sooner... I'm leavin'. Otherwise, I would probably hang to the bitter end.

Ken, if UNC plays like they have in recent weeks, my Cavaliers will have their hands full. If UVA does the same, it should be a fun, nail-biting game to watch. If, howiever, UVA goes back to blowing pass, punt, and kickoff coverage, it will be a long day, for my team. Of course, there's a game in between, for both teams. Let's hope the point isn't moot.

  • Honesty first Nov 5, 2012

To be honest, I saw very little of this game. I did see some of my neighbors coming home quite early from the game (they left at the half) so I turned it on to see how bad State was beating the Hoos. I was not oly shocked at the score, but even more shocked at all of the empty seats at Carter Finley and there was still over 8 minutes left in the 3rd qtr. I thought NCSU had a rabid fan base and were supportive to the end of every game. At least that is what I expected after hearing so many NCSU fans talking about the UNC fans that often left early. I must be wrong because that would be hipocritical of NCSU to do that.

  • TJPC Nov 5, 2012

"It would be easy to say the Cavaliers came in and dominated the Pack, but in truth it seems more like the Wolfpack's wounds were self-inflicted" - Actually, no Ken - Virginia did come in and dominate State. Anybody who watched the game could see that. They pushed them around the entire game. On top of that were the errors - dropped passes, etc.

  • vile garbage Nov 5, 2012

    Daaaammmmnnnn daawwg!

  • PITNSMOKE Nov 5, 2012

TOB has only had a couple of complete games this year. Glennon is a joke.He can't move or run. If the pocket is flushed he's a finished. Does Tom ever flip out? Football is an aggressive sport and players every now and then need a good Chewing and maybe benching. Then he calmly looses last week and Maryland beat the week before, they just missed by inches after they moved down the feild like nobody was there.PULL THAT WITH THE TOP PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY AND THEIR COACHES WILL.............................................

  • SpartanDude Nov 5, 2012

It is clear that the UVA coaches had their game plans and team ready for NCSU. Sure there were mistakes and dropped passes, but that can be said for both teams. It really did look like the cavaliers simply won that game.

  • DooksucksV3 Nov 5, 2012

It is sad that the local media still can not give the teams that beat N.C. State credit continually saying State is beating themselves. They were dominated Saturday and that had everything to do with an inspired Virginia team.

  • Boogalooboy Nov 4, 2012

Carolina gets their chance to see how good they can be in two weeks. The Hoos have been very hard for the Heels to beat in Charlottesville, and I don't expect it will be any different this year.

Exactly, Ed. Everyone is writing UVA off. Until yesterday, I didn't know how good they are. Sure, State helped UVA look good, but UVA won that game from tip off till when the clock read 0:00

  • Ken D. Nov 4, 2012

While this loss is disappointing for the Wolfpack, it is only puzzling if you accept the premise that State is in the top half of the ACC in terms of talent. I haven't seen much evidence that assumption is valid, despite the preseason hype.

  • larrys080 Nov 4, 2012

Until yesterday Virginia was the worst team in the ACC! Bahahahahahahah! State fans will somehow still try to convince everyone that they have a chance to win the division. Smh!!

  • larrys080 Nov 4, 2012

TOB is now 1-5 the week after playing Carolina! When you ONLY care about one game during the year this is what happens! State athletics continues to be laughable at best!

Yeah I second that...I am in the area a lot near the stadium, have seen and talked to him while he exercises. The guy lives football and is a heck of a coach not to mention a nice man. He has my respect no matter where he coaches...

  • tayled Nov 4, 2012

  • Jewelry-EricLeak Nov 4, 2012

ACC22 made a very reasonable comment, and it is absolutely true that the only reason TOB was still around this year is because of his 5-0 record vs UNC. Amato was canned because he lost 3 straight to UNC. Do UNC football fans REALLY have an ego about football? The answer is absolutely NO. This year, because of the sanctions and the previous 5 losses to State, yes, this year the State game was the "Superbowl" for UNC. So what.
The angry, bitter, paranoid State fans who have obsessed and wished NCAA death on UNC deserved watching the Pack get beat by UNC in heartbreaking fashion and getting trounced on Homecoming. NOT the kids. TOB, his passive aggressive, snarky self...... well, you decide what to do with him.

  • tayled Nov 4, 2012

This leads to extreme predictability that defenses can easily adjust to and tee off on with ease.

And I might add, I never played football, never coached. but have watched TOB teams long enough that even I as someone who never played or coached can tell what they are going to do. Case in point was that I was at the game yesterday with my son. I told him on almost every play what was coming and with few exceptions, I was correct. So, imagine what experienced coaches and players can do.

  • 4tarheels Nov 4, 2012

Stop hating on TOB. He is a hard working coach who runs a clean program. He deserves to stay at State as long as he likes. I hope he gets the chance to coach at State another 5+ years.

  • tayled Nov 4, 2012

Very true. All state cares about is UNC. Tom allowed his teams year after year to play their hearts out in one game. Just win that one game nothing else matters. Well they lost that one game. Now what. Too much focus on unc in all aspects. Read moby dick. Learn the dangers of obsession

Not to be totally defensive for TOB, for I think it is time for a change, but how many coaches throughout the country have lost their jobs just becasue they lost to the team's arch rival? Who could blame them for coaching to win that job so they can keep their job?

But, I think that the UNC loss has little to do with why TOB should go. There is a consistent problem, year after year, with recruiting, motivation, and player development. There is also an unwillingness to explore options when something is not working. I bring as evidence the fact that TOB will put in a RB to play an entire quarter and will not consider running in a replacement unless there is an injury. He will play Creecy one quarter, Thornton the next, and never varies. As has been pointed out many times, in his entire career, a FB has never carried the ball in his offensive scheme. This leads to extreme predictability that defenses can easily adjust to and tee off on with ease.

Sure winning that one game gets you into a bowl game each year. No State does not want to lose to UNC but statements like yours show just how much of an ego UNC fans have and why there are so many abcers. State will take a loss to UNC each year in exchange for wins against FSU and Clemson. We had rather beat a ranked team than just another mediocre team. Thats the problem with most UNC fans, they think they are something special when really they are nothing more than anybody else. I had rather see State loss to UNC than ECU. But its suppose to be our Superbowl, looks like its UNC's Superbowl, any story on here about State will have more comments from UNC fans than they have on their own articles about UNC. All you have to do is go to stories about either school or the forums and the facts clearly show who has the obcession, probably about 10-1. Every week there are more comments on State's game from UNC fans than there are about UNC's game from their own fanbase. That really is pretty pathetic. And as far as Super Bowl, State might not make a bowl this year, but that is a might, last weeks game is the only game UNC will play this year that they can use the word bowl in. Lol

  • natsfan1965 Nov 4, 2012

TOB needs to go.The performance or lack there of yesterday was inexcuseable. As far as a replacement goes, I have a very good one in mind. Bobby Wilder built the program from scratch at Old Dominion in Norfolk,Va. They have NEVER had a losing season and are a serious contender for the Division1-AA national title this year, in only their 4th year playing football. They play a very successful and exciting brand of football. He has a very outgoing and engaging personality as well. Plus he has an excellent track record in recruiting the very recruit rich area of the 757 area code in Virginia, which annually produces a lot of top recruits, including 3 current starting quarterbacks an the ACC{E.J. Manuel,Taj Boyd and Phillip Sims}. N.C. State would be very smart to hire a coach of his caliber.

  • wlcat609 Nov 4, 2012

To me it looked like the NC State players thought they had a sure 'gimme' (W) but as it turned out that what they got was a 'gotcha'.

I haven't checked the updated bowl projections on the cbssportsline.com website yet today after yesterday's games. State may go to a bowl for the $$$$$; during bowl season I expect many of the ACC team's to end up with a 'L' just like the results of the non-ACC games played this season.

I am officially a member of the Tom O'Brien not-a-fan club. I don't know where we go from here, but it is clear he has no idea how to motivate his players and get the most out of his team on a consistent basis. The next few years look like they are going to be really painful.

I wonder after Glennon is Gone if TOB even has a decent QB coming remember how pathetic it was before Russell Wilson & Glennon came.I have supported TOB his entire tenure first he fails to call a time out before the punt was returned for a TD in the Carolina game then he has a team that beats #3 FSU then falls to last place UVA. Chuck was fired for bone headed plays penalties Tom improved on penalties but there are still boneheaded plays and coaching. I graduated from NCSU but after this half azz effort WE dont deserve a bowl game with 6 or 7 wins some one less talented who bust their all season does with 6 wins.Without 8 wins we deserve no bowl. This is absolutely was pathetic to the point the fans monies should be refunded. It's time NC STATE hired an NFL caliber coach. I URGE THE FANS TO NOT ATTEND THE GAMES TIL THIS ADDRESSED. TIRED OF INCONSISTENCY!unemotional players laughing smiling on the side line while they were getting azz kicking.Usually players get better with experience and good coaching seems to the contrary here or is it a lack of leadership and discipline.

  • StunGunn Nov 4, 2012

State had everything to play for: get the bad taste of losing to Carolina out of their mouths, secure a bowl bid, win for the seniors, and it was homecoming. Reporters noted that the week of practice was very intense, but none of that intensity showed up on the field. Maybe UVA is better than everyone - other than Coach London and his team - thought.
