I assume he is referring to the USNWR rankings. Are you aware that all 14 members of the SEC are ranked ahead of Louisville on that list?

But let's keep in mind that is a ranking of academic prestige, not academic rigor. There is a difference.

There are currently only two conferences in which all of the members are ranked in the upper half of FBS schools - the ACC and the B1G. As the top conferences continue to expand, the pool of schools in the minor conferences - in which I now include what remains of the Big East - that rank in the upper half is pretty small. Nine schools in all, listed in the order of their respective ranking:

Rice, Tulane, SMU, UConn, Tulsa, Miami(O), UMass, Buffalo and Temple.

    The pickings are getting slim.

I'd actually say that Louisville could add more eyes than the Twerps took away. Again, who is watching MD? Good add, accretive from the get go.

  • jeffnnc Nov 28, 2012

Roy Williams, Coach K, Jim Boeheim and Rick Pitino all in once conference now. WOW.

  • shakennotstirred Nov 28, 2012

Haha! Dykes called us Wral posters "19 tear old pot smokers". Well, he's wrong. I'm 49...

  • weaver52000 Nov 28, 2012

sorry Roy, you are now 3rd best coach in the ACC

  • takeoff Nov 28, 2012

If Doogie Thorp says it's OK, it's OK...let's move on.

  • lec02572 Nov 28, 2012

Love having Louisville in the ACC. Should have happened years ago. Its not about academics any more, its about the dollar. If not, there would never have been all the big coference changes to start with. Just waiting to see what the final dollar figure for MD leaving will be. If it is reduced to say 20 million, you might see FSU and Clemson go to Big 12.

You support strong academics and you want to go to the SEC? Really?

  • ptrrrk1 Nov 28, 2012

With an academic ranking of 160, Louisville is not of ACC caliber... I support a break up. I grew up in NC and have been a UNC fan for life. The conference is no longer the ACC and should just break up. UNC would fair better in the SEC with true southern rivals SC, Tenn, and Georgia Keep an out of conf Duke game and let the rest fade away. Sad but true, the ACC is no longer a unique conference......

  • jeffnnc Nov 28, 2012

This sends a great message to Maryland that they will not be missed AT ALL by the ACC.

  • wjuliang Nov 28, 2012

Could see UCONN if ND comes in football.

look on the bright side, guys. by maryland leaving, we no longer have to look at those god-awful helmets and uniforms.

  • Barely Nov 28, 2012

Let's go ahead and 16 teams so we can dump the NCAA.

  • tayled Nov 28, 2012

OK. you now have another school that is clearly not on the Atlantic coast. We need to rename the conference something besides "Atlantic Coast" Conference.

  • Cragsdale Nov 28, 2012

Team #15 will be UConn, and then eventually Cinnci.. I say within 8-12 months.

  • BeastOnTheHill Nov 28, 2012

  • JPack Nov 28, 2012

Wow! I totally pegged them for the SEC. Well, ECUs chances just got better. They'll be playing the same teams they did last year. My prediction is the BE cherrypicks from the CUSA now.

  • Mr. Middle of the Road Nov 28, 2012

Hey folks, I know this isn't the ACC we all use to love but that conference is long gone. I personaaly think it went on life support when we added Georgia Tech and then died when FSU came on board, but then I am an old dude. Lets embrace this new conference. We can have the original 6 ACC schools plus Virginia Tech in the Carolinas/Virginia Division and all the rest in the Everybody Else Division.

  • baldchip Nov 28, 2012

So we add an academic looser to the conference!! Wow!! Sure have lost come credibility!!

Let's look at some academic winners for a change. NAVY?? ARMY??

  • Mr. Middle of the Road Nov 28, 2012

Hey, maybe we can start winning the Big 10 Challenge again. We certainly can't do it with the teams curerntly in the ACC.
