Who can forget the 1976 ACC tournament when #6 seed UVA upset #3 State, #2 Maryland and #1 UNC to win the title, with Holland at the helm. Wally Walker took Walter Davis to task in the final game!

  • Alex25 Dec 12, 2012

Party at Party U!!! EZU!! Easy U!!! Best school in Pitt county....arguably. There is PCCC...

I'm sorry, but complaining about opposing fans at a STATE game?!?!?!

What does an ecu fans' behavior at a state game have to do with a deac fan?

I wonder if you talked to him about the Deacon basketball team behavior in Greenville a few years back?

Not sure what Logans' educational background is but ADs' usually are academics first and sports people second. They spend lots of time on fundraising with academic types and other academic things.I think Holland was highly educated.
Usually it is someone with a major in academics and a minor in sports.

I like Logan but no way is he political enough to hold that position. He'd tick off the first Pirate Clubber that asked him an honest question.

  • baldchip Dec 12, 2012

I was listening to Coach Dave Odom a short time ago on the radio with David Glenn. Gentleman was the word that kept surfacing. Terry Holland could where a suit and tie and look natural. Not all athletics types can do that well.(Imagine Little E or Dale Earnhardt or Richard Petty in a suit).

Terry Holland had the skill to listen, think, then respond. What an example he sets for all of us!!!

Someone earlier metioned a replace ment -Steve Logan-great idea. Logan is a people person-who did good things for ECU-then fell out of grace when he had several loosing seasons. Not everybody can talk with donors-go to their office and request a big check. I think Logan could do that-WE know Terry Holland could.

Terry Holland-Godspeed!! ENJOY RETIREMENT. You've earned it!

  • r u crazy too Dec 12, 2012

I've followed Terry Holland's career since his days at Davidson, and the first thing that comes to mind is that he has always been a southern gentleman and class act. I am not a Pirate fan, although my wife is, but I think that Terry has done an outstanding job as AD at ECU. He's going to be hard to replace.

  • OBXBound Dec 12, 2012

    True class act.

  • Pirates of the East Dec 12, 2012

There is not a single person who has done more fro East Carolina athletics then Terry Holland. Thanks Coach for all you did for East Carolina.

  • themanns Dec 12, 2012

Thanks for serving ECU with such integrity and respect and all that you have done to move ECU forward. Enjoy some rest and have a wonderful retirement. God bless you and your wife for all you sacrificed for this university.

  • Honesty first Dec 12, 2012

No affiliation at all with ECU but still think Terry is a great guy who did a wonderful job at ECU. COngrats on keeping him around as an advisor.

  • dsalter Dec 12, 2012

    Good luck!

  • zonk Dec 12, 2012

Top notch guy his whole career. Nothing bad to say about him.First class !!

  • wlcat609 Dec 12, 2012

Don't know if there would be any interest on his part but one person that comes to my mind immediately as an AD successor is.....Steve Logan!

  • Deacons Dec 12, 2012

Very nice man, he called me several times regarding concerns I had about the behavior of ECU fans at a State game. He was very nice, personable and was very thorough. Great AD.

  • RaleighMan Dec 12, 2012

One of the smartest figures in college sports. Gentle giant. Never was too busy to lend you an ear for a few minutes. Thanks Coach for all you did for ECU. You will be missed!

  • Pirate01 Dec 12, 2012

He has done wonders in his years at ECU. From facilities to fan support to on the field success. It was a true honor for him to be at ECU. He is a well respected man that deserves his retirement at the age of 70.

  • VT1994Hokie Dec 12, 2012

Holland was a strong coach at UVA, and he built ECU athletics program in all areas.

He ran a clean ship with quick consequences for those who acted inappropriately, oversaw the return of Pirate football after the downward spiral that was John Thompson football, was an honest sounding board for fans without sugar coating, and overall he is just an excellent human being. Glad he is a Pirate and will always be a Pirate.. thank you TH!

  • tmstubbs63 Dec 12, 2012

From a Pirate graduate and fan...I have mixed emotions about this....he "cleaned" house when he came in.....Pirate basketball took a huge step backwards.....football has been a rollercoaster (IMO).....baseball has been fairly steady.....who is the logical replacement?

  • StunGunn Dec 12, 2012

Terry Holland has done a terrific job and he'll definitely be missed. He'll be a hard act to follow. I hope he enjoys his new role at ECU, which won't be nearly as demanding as his role of AD was been.

  • takeabathgreg Dec 12, 2012

Good riddance! Whats his shining light - membership in the Big East?

+1. Didn't like him as coach at UVA in the 80's but got to know him at ECU games.

  • tcoutouzis Dec 12, 2012

Thank you Terry! You are a true statesman. He and Dave Hart are the two best AD's we have ever had.

  • 2assume Dec 12, 2012

Thank you Mr. Holland for you have done and will continue to do for ECU. You are a class act! I remember being at Baseball games and you coming around talking with all the fans. You will be missed.

  • ecupurplhze Dec 12, 2012

He will truly be missed. Best AD I've seen in a longtime. Great guy who deserves a great send off!

  • hovis Dec 12, 2012

He did do a good job. Though he would stay AD longer. Yikes.

  • RaleighPirate Dec 12, 2012

Thank you Mr. Holland for all you have done for ECU during your tenure as Athletic Director. You are a class act!

  • baldchip Dec 12, 2012

Terry Holland is a class act. He always has been as a coach and later as an AD.
I suspect that he has made a huge difference at ECU.
