Nobody's even talking about the turdholes anymore because nobody cares... all eyes are on Duke and NC State these days. Should be a great game this weekend.

Should be one heck of a game!

Well, Hokie, I was off by 2 points - I said Duke would win by 30. That said, I was way off in the way I thought Duke would start the second half. I thought they'd come out on fire, but Clemson was able to make a lot of steals and forced Duke into uncharacteristic turnovers. The outcome was never in doubth, though. Cook had a monster game.

Maryland sure did improve over last year.

I agree about Carolina's chemistry, or lack thereof.

Green is VT's best player, but he can't win all by himself. Duke is by far the best team in the ACC. I'm looking forward to seeing Duke at the PNC on Saturday.

It was an ugly game, but Duke played well enough that the outcome was never in doubt. I remember the run and gun games Duke and Carolina used to play. They were a lot of fun to watch.

Juggernaut...Can't beat 'em...I feel sorry for UNC

  • VT1994Hokie Jan 8, 2013

This particular article doesn't match, or really talk much about the Clemson game.

  • uncsuckz Jan 8, 2013

Looking forward to the State game Saturday at high noon. It'll be a close one as they're playing at NCSU's barn this time around. I believe the Duke seniors will be the difference in the game. Duke 78 State 71

You hit it. 42-24. I see Maryland doing well this season. One more win and they should be ranked. I would place them along side NC State right now. I see State as being over-rated.

UVA will be another tough team. They already have the best defense in the ACC. They play smart for Bennett. Miami is well coached too. I see UNC needing to improve on defense to be in the top 4-5 today. They have the talent to make it happen. Chemistry? It's not there in what I've seen.

VT hasn't done much since beating Iowa and OK State. 7 scholarship guys usually can't cut it.

  • mxteam44 Jan 8, 2013

    Ugly game from both squads!

Their playing basketball, not "first one to 100 points"

25 is enough.....when the other team has 10

Duke will come out of the gate fast in the second half, like they usually do. Clemson has mostly freshmen and sophomores, so this is going to be tough for them. Booker is the only one challenging Duke.

  • StunGunn Jan 8, 2013

    View quoted thread

Duke started slow, as usual, but they did come on later in the half. K will let them have it if thinks they're not playing well. I think Duke wins by 30.

  • VT1994Hokie Jan 8, 2013

    View quoted thread

This is an ugly game for both teams right now. Clemson is shooting 13.% FG's. 0-6 3pts. FT's solid.

Duke is only shooting 29.6% FG's. 37.5% 3pts. A a dismal 2-7 from the FT line. Rebounding and FT's is the two major areas for Duke to grow.

It is really ugly for Clemson. They couldnt throw it in the ocean.

And puke has 25 points in a half. Thats not blowing the doors off of anything. Thats just blowing.

I don't see Duke flaming out this year at all. They do have a habit of starting games slow, and someone - maybe State at the PNC - will make them pay, but Duke is head and shoulders above any team in the ACC right now. They are deep, experienced, and motivated. They want to win the NC, and this team has the talent to do just that.

  • StunGunn Jan 8, 2013

Duke is blowing the doors off the gym now. This is going to be really ugly for CLemson.

  • VT1994Hokie Jan 8, 2013

Booker is shooting 50% FT's. I can see why. Ugly shot. Duke hasn't had guys run the floor at this point.

  • shakennotstirred Jan 8, 2013

I don't know about this one??? Duke has looked weak lately so I see this game as closer than I thought a week ago. I say Duke in a squeaker - 104 to 58...

  • Wolfpackindahizzy4shizzy Jan 8, 2013

Agreed. Duke is way better right now vs the Lehigh loss. I would bet that the coaches have reminded them of this many times. But Lehigh, and any team can have a out-of-sight night sometimes. Duke is going to go deep this year. Mizz hit a buzz saw in their 1st game last season too. Duke is going be a special team this year. I just look at the solid teams that they have beaten.

  • VT1994Hokie Jan 8, 2013

Elon and Davidson gave them all they wanted for one half. They are lacking in rebounding and shooting FT's. Mason hasn't had his points lately, because teams are doubling him, and he is making some pretty large TO's. Kelly has come to the fore to do a solid job in shooting lately, and this has gotten them over the hump. Curry has his nights when he is hitting, then he has some pretty bad games too. Still. They are better at this point vs last year. You're right about Lehigh.

  • DUKE4EVER Jan 8, 2013

    GO DUKE!!

  • blueduke4 Jan 8, 2013

^Agreed, lehigh played a hell of a game, hats off to them. Duke by 18, with Marshall, Murphy, and Jefferson seeing some action.

  • TruthBKnown Banned Again01 Jan 8, 2013

You know, about that Lehigh game... that team was ON FIRE that night. They were not going to be denied. I don't care how good or bad a team is SUPPOSED to be. When they play like that, they are a GREAT team on that night. I'm not sure Duke is really much to blame for that loss. I think they just didn't know what was about to hit them. It wasn't so much a Duke meltdown. Lehigh just took it. I don't think anybody would have beaten that team that night. They just kept nailing threes.

This is not the same Duke team that blew it against Lehigh. Anyone who believes they are is just guilty of wishful thinking. This Duke team is powerful, and as good as they are, I'm afraid they still have room to improve.

They're much better than I thought they would be going into the season.

JG, sorry for the lack of love for yer Heels. I just ain't feelin' it this year with them!

At least you have a good excuse to pound the Pinot Noir, though! :)

    duke by 28

  • VT1994Hokie Jan 8, 2013

Duke will attack Clemson early, and cruise after the half. As per one writer...Duke flaming out..It doesn't look like they are going to flame out like last year in the NCAA tourney. They haven't forgot this yet. Too many weapons. Rebounding is their weakness right now.

You're absolutely right. I checked the schedule - Carolina plays AT Littlejohn on February 28th. Whew! It's nice to keep ONE streak alive. The other streak is that Carolina always sweeps at least one ACC team. That one is in danger this year.

I've already thought the same thing. Been meaning to pull up the Holes' schedule to see if Clemson was on the agenda. It's a shame for Clemson. This would definitely be the year for them.

    Not even a chance.

Dook will flameout in the NCAA tournament though, that is guaranteed.

  • DurhamDevil Jan 8, 2013

Duke should not ( and likely will not ) take anyone lightly from here on out.

I would like to see Mason get back into his early-season form in the areas of rebounding and free throw accuracy. It seems that Davidson exposed a few things when their defense collapsed and double/triple teamed him everytime the ball came to him down low. Wake Forest did the same and Mason was forced into a few ill-advised shots.

I love what Thornton brings off the bench - he can be a real spark both offensively and defensively. It would be nice to see some others get off the bench and contribute a few points here and there.

    GO DEVILS!!!

  • labmonkey69 Jan 8, 2013

Too bad Clemson isn't travelling to UNC this year they would break the losing at UNC streak this year.

  • mxteam44 Jan 8, 2013

    Clemson will tap-out before half-time.

  • TruthBKnown Banned Again01 Jan 8, 2013

Gonna be ugly for poor ole Clemson.

  • fbguru Jan 8, 2013

Go Duke! Should remain undefeated until Sat's battle with the Wolfpack. What a game that will be! State will be ready and play like it's a National Title game! If they beat Duke the students will storm the court! (But I doubt that happens, not if Duke plays hard! They have too many weapons!)
