Howell is the most consistent of all on this team. Leslie needs some of his attitude.

  • natsfan1965 Mar 8, 2013

Wood and Howell will be sorely missed next year. Leslie leaving will be addition by subtraction. He is selfish and doesn't show up many nights. Brown will be back. He will have a chance to greatly improve his draft stock as he will be the focal point of the team next year

  • peyton1717 Mar 8, 2013

I read in some of the Draft mocks and discussions that Brown, Leslie and Howell will ALL be first round picks. Only a couple have any one of them in early 2nd round. Would love Brown and Leslie to stay but if they are getting the same feedback that I have been reading about then they will be gone.

Agree about Howell. He has really improved his game and has had a very consistent, good year.

It may be wishful thinking on my part, as a Heels fan, but I think Leslie and Brown are NBA-bound. They had contemplated leaving before this year. State may not have lived up to pre-season hype, but they had a good year, and Brown especially was very consistent. I hope Howell is a first round pick - the guy works his buns off every play, every game, and I hope he's rewarded by a being a first round draft pick.

now that's funny. there is no way he is top ten. NO WAY.

  • rlee1117 Mar 7, 2013

I think Leslie lost ground this year in the draft and needs to come back for another year and maybe a top 5 pick if he regains what he had in his first year @State! Right now I do not see him as a high first round pick.

  • rlee1117 Mar 7, 2013

I say that Howell is the best quiet player on the state team. He should be first team all-ACC! He is a rebounding monster like rodman was in the NBA!

  • rocket Mar 7, 2013

There's no way Brown comes back. He is one of the top guards in the country. Probably a top ten pick.

unfortunately for Wolfpack fans you are no longer drafted on your body of work. It's all about potential and "upside". Why come back to school and risk injury? Your upside is worth more than anything you could accomplish.

  • UpChuck Mar 7, 2013

Howell will get drafted in the second round or picked up on a free agent contract. Woods will get looked at, but ultimately passed on cause he can't play defense, not event the minimal defense needed in the NBA. Both have provided State with some exciting moments and wish them both the best of luck in the future.

  • VT1994Hokie Mar 7, 2013

Both are outstanding players and the future looks bright on or off the court. Both are classy young men.

Sorry. I meant second. Trying to multitask at times doesn't always work for me!

  • caseofthefoo Mar 7, 2013

Really going to miss these two and their contributions. Nice to see Jay Lewis drain a three at the end of the game.

Thanks for sharing but what do your comments have anything to do with recognizing two good college seniors who just played their last home game? Sometimes it's not about seeing how many negative comments you can post about a team you don't pull for. Sometimes it's just about the young people, where they started, and how they finished.

  • jacamoe Mar 7, 2013

I think if Leslie and Brown do the "right" thing and return to State, they will never regret it. That goes for the draftability, which includes their improved game if they stay next year, also gives them the chance to try and make up for our year we have had. It hasn't been terrible , but alot of heartbreaking 1 and 2 point losses we should have not put ourselves in. When you have 5 losses at at TOTAL of 7 points, that hurts your confidence and moral if you don't have a super strong will and determination, which we need to work on as well. If those two return, I think we will do much better in finishing games that we did not this year. GO WOLFPACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • blueduke4 Mar 7, 2013

There is no such thing as a third round in the nba dude, juss sayin

  • PackisBack Mar 7, 2013

    Thanks for the article Ken.

  • goode88 Mar 7, 2013

They certainly have great work to two great players! Go Pack!

I have to disagree. I think both Brown and Leslie will be back. State didn't live up to the pre-season hype, which I think hurts their draft status. I also think Wood will get drafted, third round maybe? I think with the right coach, he can definitely make a dent in the ACC. I do think Howell could be a first round pick, though, possibly late first, early second round.

  • Luv2Camp Mar 7, 2013

I believe Howell is definitely a pro player. The man can rebound and shoot. He may not be a pro starter, but I can see him putting in several good years as a backup.

I think Leslie needs another year to work on his jumper.

The only question for Lo Brown is the no. of guards available in this years draft. it may pay for him to sit on the sideline for an extra year until the class thins out a bit.

Wood is a class act that should find his way into coaching after playing in Europe.

  • buckets112 Mar 7, 2013

thanks to scott and richard for taking the risk to come to state and keeping the faith that things would get better. they will definitely be missed and it will be very strange to see state take the floor next year without #1 and #15 in the lineup.

good luck guys, thanks for representing the university with class and welcome to the alumni association!

  • shakennotstirred Mar 7, 2013

I will be shocked if Howell, Brown and Leslie are not first round draft picks. Woods is a great college basketball player and a class act, but might not be NBA material. Maybe coach material? Hopefully Brown comes back another year, but the media is saying "so long" already...

Did you learn anything in school about reading and comprehending? Must hurt to be so petty. Wood and Howell certainly are leaving State in better shape than it was when they got there, period...

  • StunGunn Mar 7, 2013

Wood and Howell both elevated their games from good to great, and are in rarified air in the records they amassed while playing for State. I agree with Ken that Howell deserves consideration for ACC POY.

As a Heels fan, I wish them all the best in the NBA, and I'm glad they'll be playing professionally next year instead of against my Heels.

  • TJPC Mar 7, 2013

Come on - give me a break. State is a team that has underperformed all year long. They had a couple of quality wins - that's it. They have looked horrible on the road and struggled as a team to find an identity. And I have never seen a team complain more about the refs - before, after, and even during games! It is ridiculous! They will make the big dance but I wouldn't be surprised if they are one and done...

  • PanthersFan45 Mar 7, 2013

Though these players were not recruits of Coach Gottfried orginally, I think the coaching change has made a difference for these players. State will likely be in the NCAA tourney for the 2nd straight year and both Wood and Howell will get an opportunity to raise their game to a higher level and (maybe) get some NBA scouts to really take notice. Not sure how either would fair in the NBA but both deserve to be drafted and given a shot.
