You're so right, Deacons. REAL life - not living through the athletes who play for the team we pull for - can slap us back into reality sometimes. You don't need to go to Guatemala for a reality check; all you have to do is watch the 6:00 news to see the real world. When I see what some people have to deal with, I realize how unimportant sports really are.

  • VT1994Hokie May 16, 2013

I read the first two pages and that's enough. How can anyone write anything negative about a young high school student that didn't pick your school? I thought he would select FSU because of his parents. Maybe he wanted to make his own way and make his own decision. The social media has hurt loads of people, and they keep on using it. The twitter, facebook, and all others has caused more harm than good in my humble opinion.

  • heelsforever May 16, 2013

Mike knows all fan bases have these silly little people. MOST of us know it too. But there are some who will come to these boards looking for any opportunity to throw mud at rival fans knowing full well that they are calling the kettle black.

  • braves309 May 16, 2013

Okay let me back up and say, I was not implying to just UNC fans, I know it came across that way. But I mean it for any fanbase how low can you go? Bashing this guy, who I think has a great head on his shoulders. I don't know him personally, but from what i have read about him he seems like a very nice kid. I wish him nothing but the best at Kansas.

  • vampireswaiting May 16, 2013

Pretty clear cut that UNC is the one getting slammed here, on this response board.

  • Deacons May 16, 2013

Go take a tour of a hospital for mentally and physically handicapped people in Guatemala Like I did 2 weeks ago and you will realize (if you have any character) there are a lot more important things than where someone chooses to go to school and play a sport.

  • Mike Maniscalco May 16, 2013

REDRGE, you really are missing the point. It was fans from all three schools Why look for more than what there is, it wasn't one post it was a lot. Anytime a kid picks a school now, the fans of the universities that didn't get picked go on the offensive, no one school is to blame than others.I would have written this if I worked in California. Pretty clear cut.

  • mike honcho May 16, 2013

The kid made his decision, grow up and move on. Beating this kid up on twitter only shows how immature some people really are.

  • vampireswaiting May 16, 2013

So, Mike Maniscalco are you saying that it was a Carolina Fan? That's what you imply by creating it on this forum. There's no Kentucky or FSU (not Fayetteville State U), sometimes those get confused, fans on here. If it was a Carolina Fan, he no Carolina Fan. In fact, he's not much of a human being.

  • Mike Maniscalco May 16, 2013

For REDRAGE, the article was meant for any of the who do this to any of the kids making their college decision. Andrew Wiggins is just the current example, I could point to just about every recruit this year. By no means was this singling out one fan base over any other.

  • unc70 May 16, 2013

Wiggins never promised UNC anything. Carolina couldn't lose what it never had.

Quite different from two memorable cases involving supposedly Carolina recruits, Art Heyman and Tom McMillen. I suggest you learn about these two.

I absolutely agree. Some of the threads on here are so juvenile, I can't help but snicker to myself. At least you can't see the vulgar language and racial slurs that you see on Twitter and other social media outlets.

And every fan base has its classless fans, unfortunately. There's always someone who has to ruin it for the rest.

Agree about some people feeling like "internet tough guys" when they post things they wouldn't dare say to someone face to face.

There may be a filter on this forum, but some people find ways to say things that are out of line and wouldn't say to your face.

  • StunGunn May 16, 2013

Any "fan" who criticizes an athlete for not picking their school really needs to take a step back and re-think things. Athletes owe us nothing, and have every right to choose the school that's right for them. As a Heels fan, I would have loved to see Wiggins playing for Roy next year, but I wish him all the best at Kansas, and I'm sure most level headed Carolina fans feel the same way.

  • braves309 May 16, 2013

UNC the most classless fan base on the planet. How could you be so classless and say those sorts of things to an 18 year old kid. How low can you go seriously??

  • stillheelman73 May 16, 2013

Twitter is stupid. Draw your own conclusions about those who us it.

  • vampireswaiting May 16, 2013

Seems he forgot to mention the twitter messages sent to Strickland by dook and state fans.

  • Boogalooboy May 16, 2013

just a kid wanting to play ball......I understand athletics draws students to apply there sometime based on the success of their athletic programs. Wrong as this is it is fact. But I honestly believe if you didn't have athletics you would still have waiting lines for admissions for the better schools... Harvard, Duke, Princeton etc...

  • Leave it to Beaver Reruns May 16, 2013

    Typical Kerolina Klass.

I like the Skype show comment.....only prima donnas pull stunts like that.

    Ca Caw.....Ca Caw

  • 75Tarheel May 16, 2013

I don't do twitter or facebook so I'm not privy to the references in the article. But those who have venomous posts for Wiggins should be smacked around a little bit.

I'm certainly disappointed but not devastated to the point of crucifying what appears to be a level headed young man who made a choice that was best for himself and his family. I don't agree with it but that's ok, too. I wish him the best of luck as long as we don't have to play him ;-)

    GO HEELS!!!

  • kikinc May 16, 2013

This is what happens when people feel all big and strong because they can hide behind a computer screen. A similar thing happened when Rodney Purvis announced that he was transferring to UCONN. The racial epithets and slur words written on his Twitter feed were disgusting. Write what you want, but when all that comes out is filth, don't be surprised if people feel you're an imbecile. Things may get a heated on here, but at least there's a filter!

yeah, you didnt look. we already talked about this and a link was provided....so yeah, nice try. Heck they boo their own players on Senior Night, imagine what they say when they get turned down over and over again.

  • arfamr1008 May 16, 2013

I personally look forward to UNC stomping a KU with Wiggins this year

  • kornfan2448 May 16, 2013

Some fans, from all fan bases, just make it too personal. At the end of the day, it's a game and that's it. If a player not choosing to attend and play at the university or team you cheer for causes you to feel any hatred or resentment towards that individual to the point you have to bad mouth them, then you clearly have your priorities out of whack.

  • PackisBack May 16, 2013

This guy has never read the forums on here!

  • NCSU84 May 16, 2013

Yup, Some of those UNC fans at it too. The high and mightycome down to earth after being spurn by Wiggins. Shame on them and the other univs not getting Wiggins....
