I'm a Heels fan, but I don't understand how fans from Duke's rival schools can pull against Team USA because K is the coach. Country trumps any school rivalry, and if anything, seeing what K has accomplished at the highest level makes me respect him more.

Totally agree, Mike, about NHL teams allowing their players to participate in World Championship games. What an honor it is to represent your country, and I was glad to see JR support his players participating. I wish the Canes were in the playoffs, but maybe next year.

As for football and Steve "Superior", I remember a more inflammatory comment he made saying that USC "may not be Alabama, but they're not Clemson, either." That certainly stirred up things between the two schools.

+ 10. No one in coaching is in front of Coach K. His energy is out there. I wonder how many millions that he has helped raise for the Kids with Cancer in our great State, and beyond. 4 National Championships and two Gold Medals. And, some still kick him. I know this deal....mostly because he isn't coaching at their school.

Maniscalco has always written interesting articles in my opinion and I really enjoyed listening to him on the Fan. No matter how many stories you see on here about Coach K its still NOT enough, the man is one of the greatest of all time and we have him here at a small private school.

  • Boogalooboy May 25, 2013

In cased some of you haters don't get it, and I wouldn't be surprised, K is at the age that other coaches use his age against him when recruiting kids, this pretty much guarantees him thru 16.....oh my

Solidly written article. Great job Mike.

Exactly I didnt want to read anymore about K. The headline didnt want me to read the article. Dont give a squat about the NHL. K isnt the only the head coach from this area that has been successful in the olympics besides Dean. Wonder how much press did this coach receive?

  • Mike Maniscalco May 25, 2013

Toddler, thanks for reading more than the headline. Because you would notice there were thoughts on the Canes, MLB and NCAA football.
