It is TIME for JR to step-back. Remember when the Hurricanes first came here and were HUNGRY for fans. Their humility has turned into out-right greed! I will NEVER go to another game until TWO things happen. 1. They LOWER ticket and parking prices BACK to 2010 levels (the year after the last time they made the playoffs) keep them there UNTIL they make the playoffs again. 2. They MAKE the playoffs. I love the team itself and want them to stay. However, I have grown to despises the selfish greed of the millionaires that run the front office and have priced the poor-man and lower middle class out of the arena. The price-hikes for next year are insane and it's time to boycott until this changes. I call on ALL caniacs to stay home on the last home-game of the year in-order to signal our un-happiness. And give them something to think about.

I missed that! Neither of them, Ward or Khudobin, should be slamming their sticks anywhere. Maybe the man who wears the C should address this...although he had his own little tantrum a couple of months ago as well.

Exactly. Like I said, I doubt you could find a replay of it anywhere unless you DVR'd the game. When Columbus scored, Khudobin violently slammed his stick against the cross bar. Then after the game he just started skating away (when the team comes to congratulate him). It wasn't the normal head bumps you see after a win. It was uncomfortable to watch especially after such a big win.

Many years overdue!! Jimy has lot touch with the future and lived in the past. This team needs young fresh players who want to play every night!!! (are you Listening eric staal??) It is easy to get players with a good past but what about the future? Keep on rising the ticket prices for low end talent and the fans stay home!!!!!

Yep, I agree, make it as easy and painless for the bigs, that is the way of this world we live in.

I am glad to see a change - finally. If Ron Francis inherits this current situation don't look for any immediate changes - it is going to take time as he hasn't had the formal responsibility of being a GM yet. Ron will need to grow into the position gradually and, yes, he may make a few mistakes along the way. I personally think you have to give him five years in the job to see any real difference - too many long term contracts now thanks to JR. It should be interesting to see what happens - que sera, sera!

Millers, I agree with everything that you just posted. Are you saying that Khudobin smashed his stick on the net and caused the guys to be hesitant to go near him.

  • 123skipjack Mar 24, 2014

I think this is the equivalent in the corporate world of giving the CEO a way out without getting fired.

JScott13 - the moment I referenced was at the very end of the Columbus game. I doubt you could find it somewhere but, as a fan, I was embarrassed. The rest of the team picked up on it too and seemed scared to even go near him. Like I said, I would have been ticked if I were him as well, but you just won a big game and need to act better than that. Cam is not the future. Khudobin might not be either. The competition between the two seems to be working right now. The goalie position is not the issue....in my opinion big contracts for average players is. I'll take the guys like Gerbe, Malhotra, Harrison, Hainsey, etc any day of the week over these high priced "show up when you feel like it players". Hopefully the new GM can shake things up.

Millers...Saturday was one game. He has a good one occasionally. The problem is that he is not, and has not been, durable for 3 years now. That's what happens when players get older. A team can't rely on a goalie with continual health issues. And maybe I missed something, but I saw Cam slam his stick on the net and throw a mini tantrum a few games ago. I have not seen Khudobin behave like that...did he. Please clue me in. I don't like that type of behavior from anyone.

Cam didn't look that old on Saturday. I'm not saying that we haven't already seen the best of his career, just saying that he looked pretty spry for being "old and injured". I'd take him over a goalie that slams his stick over the crossbar because he puts personal goals (shutout) over the team's goals (like he did after the Columbus game). I know it must be upsetting to lose a shutout in that fashion but you gotta be professional about it. No one on the team wanted to get near him after the game (albeit because they had no shots in the third and he got killed). As a fan, I'll take men over babies every day of the week, no matter how skilled they are. I like J Staal, I just think we got more out of Sutter for less money. Now we're paying Faulk 5 mil per year....really? But like everyone else has said, this is a comment board where people share their opinions. It doesn't matter if they're right or wrong, it's their opinions.

Thank you!! These forums are meant for adult conversations about sports, NOT the place to belittle posters or name calling. Way too many "internet tough guys" here. There are the smack talk forums for people who want to talk trash, etc. We don't have to agree, but everyone is entitled to their opinion without criticism.

It's sports karma, tayled. Not sure if you're a Panthers fan as I am, but I just KNOW when the Panthers play the Ravens, Steve Smith will have the last laugh as he picks apart the Panthers' D and scores with winning TD.

Francis said years ago he didn't want to coach, something that took me by surprise as I thought he'd make a great coach. I hope JR does step down and give some power to Francis. If all he does is give Francis the title in name only, nothing will be accomplished.

mikeyfan...players get old and too injured to perform. I am pointing that out, especially with regards to Cam. Doesn't mean that I am not supporting him. I have attended every retirement ceremony, Francis, Wesley, Rod...I didn't like it, but I accepted it. Players like the Staals and definitely others, should be doing better, especially Eric. I object to the fact that, in Muller's own words, they are passengers. Eric actually said it himself the other night...we are professionals and we should play like we are. Once again, you are displaying your anger by saying that I don't know anything about hockey. You have no clue who I am or what I know. I will not ever make that comment to you. At least this time you refrained from name calling.

  • luvshockey Mar 24, 2014

Just an FYI - Jordan Staal was brought here for his great 2 way play and he has been excellent. Any goals he gets is supposed to be gravy not carry the team. He is doing his job! I do believe Skinner and Ward need to go but I, personally, would rather keep Eric.

jscott, I am a true fan, I do get behind the new players, But I'm telling you to look at that stats, the stats don't lie. Look at Cam's record the past few years, The number of games he plays and the unfortunate injuries he has had, Cut by Joni's skate, Faulk takes out his knees. And as much as I'd like Khudobin, we would have been down 2 to 4 goals if he had been in net against the Jets. As for my comments, I have been to too many games and understand the mentality of some of the so called season ticket holders. So don't go high and mighty on me. When you learn the game then come back and say something intelligent and I'll respond accordingly. But when you down trodden players, you show the world you aren't behind your team, and isn't that what you just called me on? Talk about a hypocrite.

  • Carameltoe Mar 24, 2014

I'm fine with keeping Eric, but Jordan isn't pulling his weight. Trading Ruutu was a terrible move and we are in way to deep with Semin. Rutherford needs to step down.

MIKEYFAN...your comment is totally and completely out of line. Name calling is not acceptable. Though I rarely agree with you, I have never called you blind or dumb. How would you have any knowledge about blacksuv's beer drinking and partying. unless you know that person, and even then, why would you mention it on this forum. You are clearly angry because nobody agrees with you about the Staal brothers (Jordan), Cam or much of anything else. I had seson tickets during that 2006 run and I would love to have had that go on and on. But time marches on and athletes don't stay young and strong forever. I would suggest that if you are a true fan, you will get behind these new players like Khudobin.

blacksuv1962, While Jordon has been a disappointment, Eric has been a top 15 scorer his entire career. But you are too blind or dumb to see that. Look at his stats, Eric has pulled his weight, it's defenseman, like Joni Pitkanen and Forwards like Ruutu that kept this team from going forward. Maybe you should have used those season tickets to learn a little something about the game, instead of buying beers and partying.

  • rlewis2 Mar 24, 2014

BTW, who is 27-35-9. Not the Canes. Last I checked 31-31-9. Things are so bad that they can't get the record right. Bad all the way around.......

  • blynch790 Mar 24, 2014

OMG!!! The GM of what?, an ice hockey team is stepping down? Such dramatic news , let me sit down before I have a heart attack. I'm sure half the 'Canes are rolling on the floor, screamin' and cryin' at this shocker. Please, get a grip

  • tayled Mar 24, 2014

Funny how we traded away Ruutu and then a few nights later when we played the Devils, he almost singlehandedly beat us.

  • Rick Price Mar 24, 2014

He needs to step away from ALL his duties. The STALL boys need to be next. That is the biggest waste of money the Canes ever spent. I was a season ticket holder for several years and now I wont even go to a game with free tickets . I really want to see the Canes play hockey again , PLEASE get it together guys.

  • dwntwnboy2 Mar 24, 2014
