And yet you say nothing about the schools offering a scholarship to a player that they know will more than likely be one and done.

Distasteful is in the eye of the beholder. Deceitful is not. In what way did either Parker or Hood deceive Duke? Duke committed to each of them that they could play basketball for one year in exchange for room and board plus scrip worth $45K to some people. And each of them in turn agreed to stay for one year. In Hood's case, two.

Where is the deceit? Duke paid the going rate for their services for the specified time, and got a great bargain.

another year, another draft where coach k puts more impact players in the nba than roy...

  • vt94hokies Apr 18, 2014

I saw this happening about mid-season. Hood and Parker are players that can win games with athletic ability. Duke didn't show much at times on defense, shooting, nor even rebounding. Too many teams that are way in front of Duke; overall. The record shows this.

I'm pretty sure Lance Thomas graduated from Duke so try again...

  • Big Mike Apr 18, 2014

Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and the Lakers are at the bottom of the heap...would love to see Jabari go to the Lakers, and Hood to Milwaukee..not likely but just a thought..!

Private school or not, you can't hide from the NCAA. Those are the facts. As to players that go to any school on a sports scholarship.... it is my feeling that you should apply yourself academically with there. I have serious issues with these young men who accept the scholarships with no intention of finishing school. Doing so just to be seen by pro recruiters, and then jumping ship without finishing your education is distasteful and deceitful IMO.

  • vt94hokies Apr 18, 2014

Duke is in the running for a 6'9" guy from Rice to transfer. It's reported he is kinda like Hood.

  • CarolinaBlue (.791) Apr 18, 2014

Duke has the luxury of hiding behind their private school curtain, so it's hard for anyone to see any academic fraud that may be occurring. UNC and Duke recruit the same guys every year with the same high school test scores and I can't remember hearing of a Duke guy being academically ineligible, can you?

  • Ken D. Apr 18, 2014

Those are some heavy losses. Of the 12 scholarship players who started the 2013-14 season, only 6 will be back next year. It'll be interesting to see if K can mold his freshman dominated team into a championship contender as well as Calipari has at Kentucky.

The next big question in my mind is how will these departures influence the decision of Myles Turner, the last big time recruit in the class of 2014. If he were to choose Duke, which now has a lot of potential minutes to offer, K could face the prospect of losing as many as five players next year. This will be a big challenge to his coaching legacy.

  • jmcdow2792 Apr 18, 2014

As long as Duke keeps K and his reputation, they will be ok. He will be able to bring in the talent.

  • Toddler10-21 Apr 18, 2014

WRAL Bleacher Report reported this 3 days ago. Good luck Rodney.

  • CarolinaBlue (.791) Apr 18, 2014

The struggle will be real in Durham (once again) next year for their next crop of "one-and-done" players. I'll take the experienced and deep Tar Heels over them ANY DAY.

If they do MacAdoo drops even further down the totem pole. (a little Indian logo there for all of my native american friends)

  • itsnotmeiswear Apr 18, 2014

Best of luck to him, but not nearly as sure a thing as Parker. Hood's stock, like McAdoo, will rise and fall based on pre-draft workouts, and it has very little to do with each other. Team needs and who is left on the block when those teams pick will determine the selection after the first 5 or so picks. This is not a strong draft.

  • keithjinnc Apr 18, 2014

I wish these young men great success in their future endeavors! As for you haters; at least Duke players leave of their own accord, not because they have been declared ineligible by the NCAA!

Their draft stock should be secure, as long as no one from Mercer turns pro.

How embarrassing for them to have to carry that with them for the rest of their lives. It's obvious they know they made a huge mistake.
    A Ja Big one!

  • moduke Apr 18, 2014

Hood tells coach K to pound sand. NIT for next year for my poor Duke team.

  • modukev5saysbyebye Apr 18, 2014

2 more Dukies in the NBA and probably another tarheel in Europe as that bumps MacAdoo down another notch.

  • Whistling Dixie Apr 18, 2014

    Ja hilarious!

  • knbrown13 Apr 18, 2014

Just as expected! Good luck in the NBA with Jabari! Although they both had shorter stints they will always be Blue Devils!

  • Tarheel Country Apr 18, 2014

    Ouch.

"Pound Sand", said he to Coach K.

Seems they just can't get away from dook fast enough. Sad.
