UNC-NC State baseball game at DBAP cancelled

North Carolina at N.C. State

— After being postponed due to heavy rain on April 15, the "Duel at the DBAP" between UNC and NC State has been cancelled. The cancellation comes after both schools, in conjunction with the Durham Bulls, could not find a workable makeup date.

Tickets for the game can be exchanged for any 2014 regular season Durham Bulls game or USA Baseball game at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

"I'm disappointed for our team and fans," said NC State head coach Elliott Avent. "We were excited for the opportunity to compete again on the biggest stage in the state of North Carolina."

"Obviously, we are disappointed that we weren't able to find a way to reschedule," said UNC head Coach Mike Fox. "Playing at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, especially during last year's ACC Championship run, has been an incredible experience for our players and a lot of fun for our program. Unfortunately for our players, coaches and fans, the weather didn't cooperate."

To exchange tickets, fans should visit the Durham Bulls Athletic Park box office or call 919.956.BULL. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended evening hours on Bulls game days. Additionally, the box office opens at 9 a.m. on Saturdays and Noon on Sundays when the Bulls are home.

That was a heck of a game! I was watching from home, blogging with a few bleary-eyed fans of both schools. I kept making "deals" saying I'd go to bed after "one more inning", but when neither team was able to take the lead, "one more inning" kept turning into "one more" and "one more".

Watching from home couldn't compare to have watched the game at the DBAP, though, and it will be a long time, if ever, before we see a game like that again.

Even though neither team is having the season we thought they'd have, they're still pretty evenly matched, and a matchup had the possibility of another epic game. Maybe in the ACCT?

State play Georgia Tech at the DBAP back in 2011 during the ACC tournament playoffs that went 15 innings. Tech won 6-5. That was, at the time, was the most innings played in the ACC playoffs. Enjoyed being at that tournament.

That UNC-NC State from last year was, as far as I'm concerned, the best college game I've ever seen played by two rivals.
Just wish State could have pulled out a win. Got home really late after that game, but it was well worth it.

they should both have plenty of free time...the weekend the rest of the acc is in greensboro at the acc tournament...

Apparently the Swof couldn't guarantee a Tar Heel victory.

That's a shame, especially with all the great weather we've had since the 15th. It will be hard to ever top last year's game that went well past midnight.
