Greensboro, N.C. — The University of North Carolina will not play in the postseason, but they were well represented on the postseason All-ACC teams that were announced by the league Monday.
North Carolina placed four players in five positions on the first team, the same number of spots as Florida State and one behind Clemson’s six. Duke placed two players on the first team and North Carolina State placed one.
Giovani Bernard, the ACC’s leading rusher with 1,228 yards and 12 touchdowns, was named the first-team running back as well as the first-team specialist. Bernard has also added 490 receiving yards with five touchdowns and 263 punt return yards with two touchdowns to his stat sheet.
UNC lineman Jonathan Cooper, who was named the Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner as the conference’s top lineman, was named to the first team along with linebacker Kevin Reddick and defensive lineman Sylvester Williams.
NC State safety Earl Wolff was also named to the first team along with Duke corner back Ross Cockrell and punter Will Monday.
Monday, a redshirt freshman, leads the ACC and ranks 14th in the nation in net punting average at 44.12. Cockrell, a redshirt junior, leads the ACC in interceptions with five while ranking third in total passes defended with 17. He has also compiled 63 tackles, four tackles for loss and 12 pass breakups.
All six of Clemson’s first-team selections were on offense, led by quarterback Tajh Boyd and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
Announced to the second team were, Duke’s Connor Vernon and Walt Canty; NC State’s David Amerson and R.J. Mattes; and UNC’s James Hurst, Eric Ebron, Casey Barth, Kareem Martin and Tommy Hibbard.
Voting on the All-ACC teams was conducted by 46 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
