UNC's Hairston pays fine for last traffic violation

Posted October 16, 2013

University of North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston’s legal troubles are over. Hairston paid the fine and court fee Friday on the last of his outstanding charges from traffic stops over the summer, the Durham district attorney’s office said Wednesday.

On May 13, Hairston was pulled over for speeding in a Chevrolet Camaro. The address on that rental traced back to convicted felon and party promoter Haydn "Fats" Thomas. The court date was pushed back to this past Friday, where Hairston paid a $15 fee for the ticket and $188 in court costs.

On June 5, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and driving without a license when he was stopped in a silver Yukon at a checkpoint in Durham.

Durham County prosecutors dismissed those charges on July 22 after Hairston showed proof that he had a driver's license and had completed a drug assessment program.

Hairston was cited in July with speeding and careless and reckless driving. First Sgt. Jeff Gordon, with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, said Hairston was driving 93 mph in a 65 mph zone on southbound Interstate 85 near Salisbury. Hairston pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and paid a fine.  PJ Hairston "GRIND" tweet Hairston returns to practice, issues apology

North Carolina head basketball coach Roy Williams suspended the Tar Heels’ leading scorer following his third arrest. Williams said Hairston has earned his way back to practice, but he will sit out some games when the season begins Nov. 8. The number of games has yet to be determined.

"He knows he made a series of mistakes and understands very clearly that he embarrassed his family, our program and the university," Williams said in the statement.

Glad that's over. Now maybe someone can start trying to figure out why he was driving a rental car provided by a convicted felon...

Will this ever go away?? Duke is sooo perfect!!! Rich families just give there kids the keys to the BMW, Range Rover, Mercedes, Jaguars etc!!

Did Fats pay the fine for him? Jenifer Wiley Thompson was probably unable to come through for him considering her present predicament. That leaves Fats.

Another day, another news story about another UNC-CHeater. That's how they roll at UNC-CHeat: in a fast Fats mobile!

This is not a story about Duke. This is a story about UNC-CHeat. Stick to the topic at hand: UNC-CHeaters, fines, felons, and FATS.

Today is ACC Media Day -- maybe Roy won't suspend PJ after all? I hope not. #TeamNoExcuses

Who are UNC's captains, anyway? McAdoo and Simmons? lol

The editor didn't catch a critical omission:

"University of North Carolina guard P.J. Hairstons current legal troubles are over."

Toddler doesn't discriminate...He's jealous of both Duke and UNC for some reason...

I dont know if I'd refer to it as his "last traffic violation" it should read his most recent traffic violation......I dont think he's had his last yet.

Traffic tickets aside, I wonder where the NCAA is in their investigation into his association with Fats Thomas. That is the part of the story that is inherently more interesting and the reason that any of this is even news. Nobody cares about the tickets...IT'S ABOUT THE CARS, MAN!!!

I think the title is referring to this being the last traffic violation that HE is going to pay for. From here on out, UNC will have his traffic violations paid for by tutors, agents and boosters. This isn't really any different from what they've been doing with any other "student-athletes" it's just that PJ's paperwork was mishandled. Clerical error. It's taken care of now...
