North Carolina tight end Jack Tabb has been suspended for the first half of the Miami game due to an ejection for fighting during the Heels game at Virginia Tech Saturday.

Tabb was ejected for a throwing a punch in the fourth quarter. His first half suspension against Miami is by ACC rule, according to UNC.

This will be the third game Tabb will miss action in due to suspension. Tabb was suspended for two games, Georgia Tech and East Carolina, following a violation of team rules prior to the Georgia Tech game.

In three games played this season, Tabb has three receptions for 50 yards. During the 2012 season, Tabb appeared in 10 of North Carolina's 12 games played. He had 12 receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown.

"once more"? He had already missed 2 games due to breaking some unannounced team rule before this fight...

He appears to be a real problem. Suspending him for one half is very severe, don't you think? He's had a history of problemsw, but when you are 1 & 4 you have a tendency to overlook problem athletes. He and PJ must be roommates.

Yup - the only thing we can argue about is which team sucks worse:(

As for Tabb, he's a problem child and if he messes up once more, should be off the team.

I think these half-game suspensions are silly. They should be for an entire game or no punishment at all.

Unfortunately many of our coaches today indeed use such convoluted "thinking" (hard to dignify that reasoning with the word "thinking") to justify lesser punishments and discipline.

No, Bobby Bowden would have said you don't suspend a good player when they have made bad decisions because it hurts the rest of the team not having them on the field and that's not fair to everyone else. And yes, he actually did say something like that when (I believe it was Peter Warrick) one of his stars got ino trouble.
