UNC selected as clinical site for NFLPA player health program

Posted November 14, 2013

— The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been selected by the National Football League Players Association to participate in a new push to provide medical services and support to the league's former players, the school said Thursday in a news release.

UNC's Brain and Body Health program, which is a part of the School of Medicine, will partner with "The Trust," NFLPA's new program that will help former players learn about their health and develop plans for cognitive and physical functioning.

Former players will receive health screenings, evaluations with a sports medicine physiatrist, a neuropsychological evaluation, an evaluation by a cognitive neurologist, magnetic resonance imaging, a body composition and dietary consultation by an exercise physiologist and life skills coaching and transition counseling.

Services will be provided at the UNC Center for Rehabilitation Care and the Center for the Study of Retired Athletes, located in the Stallings-Evans Sports Medicine Center.

“This partnership with the NFLPA will provide former NFL players with better access to our expert sports medicine professionals for comprehensive assessment and clinical care,” Dr. Kevin Guskiewicz, co-director of the Brain and Body Health Program, said in a statement.

The Brain and Body Health program, which was designed to address the needs of former players who are in need of a baseline medical evaluation after leaving the NFL, saw its first patients in 2012.

Other medical partners in The Trust are Tulane University and the Cleveland Clinic.

I won't debate that their research is on the cutting edge just remembering how their on coach put his qb back in a game after suffering one. By the way love the area you are from
