Marshall may play Friday

dang it with these headlines

Time to determine if the benefits outweigh the risks. My guess would be they don't, considering you are risking his NBA future, and a bright one at that.

you are right...however, I think that will be determined by family, coaches and medical staff....there is no way they let him play if there is a risk - his dad has already given his opinion, I highly doubt UNC will go public with theirs and I know the Docs are not allowed to say anything (HIPAA)

Trusting Roy

I trust Roy would never risk injuring his player just to win a game. Roy cares a heck of a lot more about Kendall Marshall the person than he does Kendall Marshall the player. Roy will have Marshall's best interest at heart.

RE: Marshall may play Friday

I'm listening to DG as well, and he had a doc on who said it's possible Marshall may play on Sunday - he didn't think Friday - but heck yeah - I'll take Sunday! Apparently this is a very common injury, and two of Williams' assistants had this injury, one guy had it on both wrists.

Sounds like surgery is much better than just casting it, and Marshall will have a custom removable cast. With Marshall's determination, I'm hoping we see him on Sunday. He won't be 100%, but hopefully he'll feel well enough to play.

screws are the alternative to casts these days...they both perform the same function. The fact that he stayed in with it fractured and continued to play bodes well for his return. I suppose the fracture was not as bad as first thought.
The Dr DG had on was guessing....UNC won't put out a statement except to say it was successful....best information coming from Marshall's dad...

I know they put the screws in, and yeah that doc didn't examine Kendall, but he gave the first shred of good news I've heard since last night. Marshall will have to wear a removable cast for a while from what the doc said.

And yeah - I had no idea Marshall was hurt that bad considering he came back in the game. Butter's spirit and determination will go a long way in his return.

That's because this type of injury is commonly mistaken as a simple sprain.

John Henson was begging to play against Vermont.

Gotta love their spirit and heart!

Wishing KM a full and speedy recovery. Just had surgery this morning, I wonder impact that will play in him being available Friday or not? Doesn't sound promising IMO.

As a Duke fan thats what I would expect you to say. I'm sure his parents are taking his NBA career into their decision. ABC fans will try to blame this one on Roy too but he will do whats best for the kid......as always!

I would expect anyone who has his best interests at heart to say that.

Possibly win a title now, or assure yourself a sick NBA contract.

Can you name one college kid that would rather sit out than play? I can't think of any...

RE: Marshall may play Friday

Optimistic posts from UNC fans but lets be honest, he had surgery involving a screw into his wrist this morning. He will not play Friday. He may play Sunday, but would be extremely limited with or without the soft cast. If he does play, expect State/Kansas to hack away at that wrist, since IT IS PART OF THE BALL (if he's dribbling/holding the ball). Same with Henson. Once you step onto the court, all is fair. People hack at uninjured wrists all the time, why would they stop for someone thats "injured." Like the old saying goes, if you're hurt-- you play, if you're injured-- you sit out. Marshall dribbles and passes with his right hand frequently. Even catching a pass w/ some mustard on it would be extremely painful, much less pounding the ball downcourt while being hounded by a defender.

All of you UNC fans always comment on how "Roy really cares about his players." This decision will definitely add or detract from that argument. The kid has a bright NBA future and it would be smart to let the hand fully heal, rather than risk further injury or permanent nerve damage to that wrist.

John Henson has his sprained wrist and still missed 9 days. Marshall's wrist is fractured, he had surgery w/ a screw placement.... it's unreasonable to assume that he'll play this weekend or the rest of the year, frankly.

Ed Davis had this injury and missed 4+ weeks(into the end of the season). Demarcus Nelson had this injury and missed 6 weeks. John Henson had a sprain and missed 9 days, and looked fragile last night.

Just being honest, guys. I hope the best for him, and a FULL, speedy recovery. Sucks for so many injuries to UNC this season, they would have had a very special season most likely.
