dook has cost the ACC over $1.25M for not making it to the Elite 8 the past 2 years.

If a team makes the NCAAT every year ranked as a 1 or 2 seed, I would venture to say that getting to or past the Sweet 16 is a reasonable expectation. Duke has failed to that in 7 of the past 8 years. That is a pattern of choking and even some of the experts have asked if it's now fair or time to attach the choke label. And you don't need a link to understand that. By the way.....that's the most for any team in the the ENTIRE history of the NCAA.

    7 out of 8...definitely a (flameout) pattern.

Duke again missed the Sweet 16 in 2011 after winning the NT a year before. UNC made the Elite 8 a year after going to the NIT with a team that lost its top seven scorers from the previous year, five or six of whom were drafted. How many total players from each team was it that were drafted after 2009, 2010 and 2011? I sure that UNC leads Dook hands down.

Whether UNC went to the NCAA, NIT, ABC or XYZ it still doesn't diminish the FACT that as a 1 or 2 seed, Dook has had very minimal success in reaching or getting past the Sweet 16. Example: 2012 - A No.2 seed lost to a No. 15 seed - Dook was one of those and they failed in 2011 as well. Am I the only one that sees a pattern? Didn't think so!

And what team has flamed out more than Dook when it comes to an early exit before of during the Sweet 16? The answer is nobody.

Probably the most liked and respected Tar Heel fan on here and the nicest person no matter the fanbase. Now if you want to chat with someone who is world class on posts, try Mr. TBK, he's nearing 20K in a much shorter period of time. BTW, what color of Fever do you suffer from?

Not sure I understand the double-tongue of Heel fans here. One one hand, you claim the defection of three to the NBA is no big deal - since you have such a great coach and talent pool. Then, on the other hand the lack of some of those same players due to injuries is the excuse for missing expectations this year. Excuses are convenient things aren't they?

  • ssjack830 Apr 1, 2012

what was dook's excuse in getting beat by a team they should have wiped the floor with...smearing their rep and the rep of the ACC...good job blew devils! Carolina didn't lose respect cuz everyone knows you can't lose all those top players during the tourney...state gained respect for getting in and reaching the sweet sixteen...dook was the ugly stepsister...maybe they should have stayed home...fla. st didn't help either...another flameout.

the refs did screw up and turn the game on not calling a foul late in the game when henson was mugged in the lane and instead it went down for a 3pt play...call it right and CArolina still is in it..last nite they screwed up big time against kansas calling walking when clearly the guy caught the ball and laid it in and was fouled...so instead of a 6pt game late and game over they had to fight til the last second...seems every yr the refs slip more and more...glad to see kansas do what a decimated Carolina team couldn't ....overcome it...justice...but it could have led to their defeat...

And more than one Syracuse fan DID complain that they got hosed in the game against OSU by the refs. Slim said they couldn't win "five against eight".

Whatever Carolina fans say about losing to Kansas is going to be construed as "excuses". Kansas won, Carolina lost. Now let's see what Kansas can do against Kentucky. My guess is not enough to win.

true enough...if davis' knee went the way of dexter strickland, someone's car in lexington would still be in it's parking space and kentucky would be watching someone else play in the final game and final four...anyone who thinks otherwise is just a homer.

Injuries (regardless of conditioning) occur in sports. Teams and individuals have good games and off games. That is the reason the games are played. The best team doesn't always win, nor the worst team always lose. Fans need to remember that sports at the college are for only three purposes...First and foremost, fan entertainment. Second, to make big time money for the school. Thid (and this is limited), to prepare some of the athletes for a pro career.

    Go WolfPack!

actually... common sense would tell us that this particular thread and its title, do NOT ask a question at all... rather it makes a statement.

the O/P asked a question in his opening post, but it was NOT about WHY unc did NOT live up to expectations.

he didn't ask anyone WHY.... he just claimed it to be so.

    accurately, I might add.

By Websters definition, what you say are "excuses", because they definitely rank as "reasons" that the Heels did not acheive what was so promising. The key here is Tar Heels do not accept that as a reason why we can't step up and give our best effort to overcome the adversity or "excuse". I think Stillman White played above and beyond, and if Barnes would have shown up (yeah, thats a reason/excuse) and Henson would have not gotten hurt (Roy said he was maybe 60% after the ankle), and we still lost, then criticism would be apropos. I wish JMM could have played more but he was not ready for 30 min. of game time.

Answers to the post. UNC fans did not start a post this is why we lost. ABC fans started a post about why UNC did not live up to expectations. It would be like if some fans started a post on "Why could Lowe only win one game againt Carolina?" on State's forum. It is not fair to ask and then call the answers excuses.

The truth is, the ONLY team that can not live up to expectations is Kentucky, IF they lose Monday night.

The truth is, this is just another troll thread meant to stir up fans into another chance to bash each other and each others' schools.

the ALL TIME, LONGEST WINNING STREAK in this particular series (unc/NCSU men's hoops) is actually FIFTEEN (15) Straight by one Everett Case and his RED TERRORS.

Everett owned unc much the same way TOB has owned unc... RIGHT OUTTA THE GATE!

I didnt expect them to win without any injuries. Last year the excuse was, We were to young, Aganist Georgetown, and Kansas a few years ago it was, Roy should have called a time out, and we were too far behind, and caught up, but didnt have anything left! Next year its going to be to young again! Excuses!!! That why I dislike UNC! EXCUSES!!!!! Syracuse fans are not complaining about Melo being out!
