The truth is unc could not live up to expectations

RE: The truth is unc could not live up to expectations

Only an idiot with an IQ 25 points below Forrest Gump could call UNC's elite 8 run with 4 injured players a failure. Of course, we have plenty of those types here.

Duke again missed the Sweet 16 in 2011 after winning the NT a year before. UNC made the Elite 8 a year after going to the NIT with a team that lost its top seven scorers from the previous year, five or six of whom were drafted. How many total players from each team was it that were drafted after 2009, 2010 and 2011? I sure that UNC leads Dook hands down.

Whether UNC went to the NCAA, NIT, ABC or XYZ it still doesn't diminish the FACT that as a 1 or 2 seed, Dook has had very minimal success in reaching or getting past the Sweet 16. Example: 2012 - A No.2 seed lost to a No. 15 seed - Dook was one of those and they failed in 2011 as well. Am I the only one that sees a pattern? Didn't think so!

7 out of 8...definitely a (flameout) pattern.

RE: The truth is unc could not live up to expectations

As opposed to the Kiwi USA Basketball Curse (i.e., 7 out of 8 flameouts in the years since he took that responsibility on).

You can no longer call the Sweet 16 a "flameout", but then call the Elite 8 "getting it done." It is 1 round further, 1 more win, 1 game. There's not a huge difference between Elite 8 and Sweet 16. You both leave after the weekend, both play at 2 sites, both play 3 or 4 games.

If you want to call the Sweet 16 a "flameout", you can't justify the Elite 8 as meeting expectations.

Snubby, snubby, snubby.
You read too much into my retort.
Going along with the "curse" theme, I simply joked that dook is in the midst of a REAL trend of losing in the Sweet 16 or earlier.
Face it -- dook has progressed into the Elite 8 or better twice in the past 10 seasons. In the same window, UNC has done so six times.

The individual season "expectations" argument can be played back and forth (regular season vs ACC Tourney vs NCAA Tourney, injuries vs no injuries, etc.). However, in general, UNC and dook expectations are that they can get past the Sweet 16 more than a couple of times in a 10-year span.

And yes, there is a significant difference between the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 -- you may fool yourself, but not anyone else.

Since when did the Elite 8 become the barometer of success? Why is the Elite 8 so much better than the Sweet 16? Last time I checked, its 1 win, 1 game. If you made it to the final 4 consistently, I would say you have an argument.

If a team makes the NCAAT every year ranked as a 1 or 2 seed, I would venture to say that getting to or past the Sweet 16 is a reasonable expectation. Duke has failed to that in 7 of the past 8 years. That is a pattern of choking and even some of the experts have asked if it's now fair or time to attach the choke label. And you don't need a link to understand that. By the way.....that's the most for any team in the the ENTIRE history of the NCAA.

Quote of the day: Don't argue with a stop sign; it only says one thing. STOP!

dook has cost the ACC over $1.25M for not making it to the Elite 8 the past 2 years.
