UNC Fans and the USA Basketball Team

RE: UNC Fans and the USA Basketball Team

This wasn't meant to be a Roy vs. Coach K thread, or Duke vs. UNC thread. I was just trying to see if any UNC's fans hatred for K would prevent them from rooting for Team USA.

But for arguments sake, it's crazy not to think that Coach K played a role in winning the Gold medal for the USA in 2008. The level of international competition has improved greatly since Dean's era, obviously.

Obviously the PLAYERS felt he had a major role in their success:

I was actually going to link that same photo when one of them tried to claim coaches aren't considered part of the team as a whole.

Your reading comprehension level has gotten a lot worse lately. No one (except you) made a statement that the coach was not part of the team as a whole.

I actually proposed the same question to you, but you never answered. Shocker.

RE: UNC Fans and the USA Basketball Team

The 2008 USA Olympic Team won their 8 games by an average of 28 points. Kobe & King James could have coached that team to the gold.

Wrong. His comment implied there was a disconnect between being a coach and part of the team. I questioned that notion and he and you both failed to respond. So actually, you fail. Again.

Wong again. His comment stated that UNC fans had a history of multiple head coaches with a national titles while dookies confined their accomplishments solely to the era of the rat. You are making this way too easy.

RE: UNC Fans and the USA Basketball Team

I pull for the USA team no matter what coach heads up the team. I do remember when Dean coached the USA team that there were Duke fans that stated " I'd pull for Russia before I'd pull for a team coached by Smith."

If you don't pull for the USA, you are not American. I would even cheer for the Olympic team if it was coached by John Calipari and the President of USA Basketball was Michael Jordan. Yikes, that is scary to think about though.

RE: UNC Fans and the USA Basketball Team

Yep, Dean won Olympic gold with the best college players in the country. Funny how everyone forgets to mention how the level of international competition wasn't even close to what it is these days though.

They were still college players who didn't play with or against each other on a regular basis. These are pros who see each other day in and day out, so just how much coaching is there to do? Basically NONE! Just what the heck can k teach them?

These are pros going against a much higher level of international competition who also have NBA caliber players on their rosters. These current NBA players would have totally crushed our college players. And as far as competition, the Russians were always a challenging opponent and it usually came down the us and them. Your comment is invalid and carries no merit!

Try some other BS!

You do realize Kevin Durant has openly admitted Coach K has made him a better defender?

You named ONE team that gave the US a run for its money back then, you could name SEVERAL now that can comepte against us. Again, did you even watch the Olympics four years ago?

He learned something from K:

K's influence is felt through out the NBA:

RE: UNC Fans and the USA Basketball Team

I love the excuse when K wins that he had so much talent. You know who else had that talent?, the coaches before him and they lost. They brought in K to take care of business. The world caught up to the US teams for the last decade. True, they still had the most talent, but K did what the coaches before him didn't do. Gold. They best players in the world (Kobe/Lebron) bent over backwards and praised K. I'll forward you the link of all the players kissing his rear if you like, but I'm sure people on this board will claim that K threatened them to get the praise

RE: UNC Fans and the USA Basketball Team

I still have not found something more humiliating than that loss, and I have looked around the net all day.
