Report finds academic fraud at UNC

.

The bottom line is the myth of the Carolina Way has been thoroughly debunked and proven to be non-existent.

The myth that Carolina is a "public Ivy" has been debunked.

And people like thrill here are in complete and utter denial over it.

Keep dreaming. LOL. NC State is and always will be a safety school for people that aren't good enough to get into the flagship. And there isn't a thing that you can do about it.

Carolina: Top 5 public. NC State: Lowest rated school in the ACC. Now I understand why your reading comprehension is so terrible, TBK.

You definitely made a solid point in this one. UNC is above NC State in academics. Still. The mess of the AA Studies isn't much to write home about. It makes the University look extremely bad. I have written it above. This is not a small bleep for the school. Those in leadership positions should be raked over the coals for this one. I hope that some will be fired. Academic fraud is STRONG.

How so?

Lololol

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

Also, for all the State fans who are putting down the academics of UNC based on this which is a fraction of this great university then I excpect when the next rankings come out State will be well ahead of UNC overall on the best universites in America list.

Agreed. Can't wait to see the new rankings! Or, wait...is USNWR just in on the conspiracy?

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

I'm glad this all came to light over the last 2 years and UNC terminated Butch. Hopefully, the new football coach and athletic administration will prevent this from happening again. Lesson learned should be that you should never sell your soul for football, it's not worth it. Rebuild integrity...GO HEELS!

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

The Carolina way strikes again. CA Caw CA caw CA call the NCAA. HAHAHAHA

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

Check out the N&O. I've been saying this was the root of the problem over there for years. Almost every fb & bb player enroll in AA Studies or Communications. I wondered why for decades no players were ever academically ineligible. Never. Now we know why. Bogus classes. Easy A's. Fraudulant programs to help players stay eligible & post fraud grad rates. What a mockery of college athletics.

Mockery Dickory Dock, Brett Trarton is off his block, the raging drivel he spews, has people smelling skanky poo, and now Brett is just a troll living in shock!

OK, had to work some wierd words in but not much time to put into this one.

Wow Brett, bitter much? How are those dreams of Tar Heel ruination going for you? Must have been a slow day at the asylum. Ironically NCSU has more than it's share of "recreational" courses that Forest Gump could make a 4.0 in, and at Dook you just need to have the money to buy the tests and papers and you are home free. Oh, let's don't forget those Dook "study groups" AKA getting impermissable help within the honor code. Severely obese pototrolls, meet the good looking kettle UNC.

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

Since 2006, NC State has had a total of 15 "committee cases". Those are student athletes that fall below NCAA, ACC, &/or UNC system requirements for admission. That's 5 a year. UNC has averaged EIGHTEEN a year over that same period. The 2006 class had 27 alone. That's unreal. And these guys are graduating in 4 years from a supposed 'public ivy' school. (rolls eyes) And most of these losers (Dwight Jones, Kevin Reddick, etc) had to have special circumstances to even graduate high school.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/11/28/1870685/unc-athletes-caught-in-squeeze.html

"At UNC, about half of the football recruiting classes over the past six years have been admitted to school through a special committee process required for students who fall below academic requirements."

"At N.C. State - which often recruits the same in-state athletes as UNC - 15 football players have gone before a special admissions committee since 2006 because they did not meet minimum curriculum requirements set by the UNC-system Board of Governors."

UNC Exceptions

Number of student athletes granted admission who did not meet minimum requirements:

-2010: 14
-2009: 16
-2008: 13
-2007: 22
-2006: 27

18 academic exceptions PER YEAR for Carolina. Yet, NONE of them had any problem graduating from Carolina. Not one. And now this report about the academic fraud. It doesn't take a genius to figure out SOME of these academic exceptions benefited from the academic fraud.

Independent investigation now!

Laughable you question others integrity in getting a degree and it's obvious you had "excessive" help getting yours based on what you post here. I'd really love to see you go up to those kids who have worked their rear off to learn and earn a degree and question their integrity and honesty. Yunno I am involved with at risk youth that start out as those "exceptions" you and Skunk make fun of, and if not for the intervention provided they would not even make it to college. All of these kids are Socioeconomically disadvantaged, usually minority, and need help breaking the cycle that has been accepted as the norm way too long. It's a monumental effort but one that has proven very successful. You and your sister Skunk are probably the first that whine and complain about youth not caring and getting an education and picking themselves up and bettering themselves. Then you turn and condemn the very programs that fix the social issues you whine about. This is where I could lecture you all day about humanity and hypocrisy, but I'd need to be lecturing to someone that is human.

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

I read the first 7 pages on this one. The AA Studies department obviously was a dismal/fraudulant program, and UNC should have known something was totally amiss. No one even spotted this mess. Anything. Or any one person to even spot this lame Couse of Study. (For graduates) that know this.

One writer stated that the article only referenced FOOTBALL players. Ha. What a joke to write this. Only football players... Give all of us a break that have some comprehension skills.

This is not over yet for UNC. Could be some will be fired further, and the BOG could look inside the leadership once again.

I doubt the chancellor survives this.

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

Very commendable of you Godfather. My wife works in public education & trust me, I know all about the problems out there. Absent parents, phone numbers that don't work when a teacher tries to make contact, drug issues among students & parents, parents that can't hold a job or in many cases WON'T hold a job.

But the fact that UNC has admitted all the academic exceptions but has yet to have an actual academic casualty in 30+ years is rather ridiculous. The corruption & cover up in Chapel Hill is the problem. Not the students. Grade inflation, fake courses & shoddy professors lead to suspect degrees.

Don't worry, help is on the way. With all the AA graduates that UNC is producing, there will be a long line of 'community organizers' to take up your mantle.

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

I've said this before, and I'll say it again now...schools should be allowed to have special majors for athletes. A kid playing college football or basketball typically wants to make a career out of it, so why can't colleges offer "football studies" or "professional athletics" as majors? They could teach their student-athletes about the league, agent representation, financial planning, backup plans (maybe courses related to coaching), etc. Heck, if you really want to get into it, make "NCAA Compliance 101" be a mandatory part of the major.

Kids who play the violin can major in music...kids who act can major in drama. Why can't kids who play football major in football?

RE: Report finds academic fraud at UNC

Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.
But you can't hold a whole [university] responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole [university] system? And if the whole [university] system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America! Gentlemen!
