I think what makes baseball so challenging is that a player has to be capable of bursts of speed i.e. running the bases, or running in the outfield to catch a ball and then quickly throwing it to the appropriate teammate; and this is preceded by standing in one spot for a while. Baseball requires players to be prepared for all sorts of aerobic and anerobic activity; basketball is more consistent in that players run up and down the court.
I agree with BB5: it takes tremendous talent to be good at any sport. It also takes natural physical traits that you're born with i.e. above normal vision (Cam Ward had 20/8 vision), height, etc.
Teddy Ballgame had 20/10 or 20/15 in both eyes...
makes for a great fighter pilot and an even better hitter!!!
