Now Kato, you are always pointing out overall series records when it's UNC and State. Why is it you only went back to 1983 for this stat? Why don't you share with us the OVERALL series record between ECU and State? Or, the series record BEFORE 1983? Consistency, my friend.

I realize it's an arbitrary number, but for well over 50 years, the series record is about is even as it can be (we're 2-3 wins from being exactly even). That is a VERY long time for what amounts to a 1-1 ratio of wins for our programs against each other. It's so long that it is an insult to our intelligence for someone to claim total dominance just because the games before that were lopsided in favor of Carolina. In the modern age of football, we're basically even against each other.
Carolina leads State by roughly 30 wins in the series. They got almost every one of those 30 additional wins in the first 45 meetings. The series started out something like 30-5-6. Since that time, Carolina has gained just 2 more total wins against State in the series, a figure that is hardly worth bragging about. And it is certainly not the domination Carolina fans want to claim it is. I actually get a kick out of it when Carolina fans throw that overall series record around like it means something, or like it tells the story. The numbers alone don't tell the story at all. Once in a while I have to educate people because there are some that don't know this stuff.
People don't realize this (because I think I'm the only one that ever says it) but State used to basically field a "club" team for football. Before football was the big-money sport that it has become, they just fielded teams of actual State students, mostly from the NCSU ROTC department. Carolina was recruiting for their team long before State even
thought about caring about football results. Of course Carolina won most of those early games.

I just checked... Carolina started out 34-5-6 against State (from 1894-1955). That's 29 more wins for Carolina than State had.
The series is now 63-32-6.
That means that since 1955, Carolina has two more wins (TWO!) than State has over them. That's over a 57 year period.
There was clearly a point in time when our programs became even in football -- it started with the 1956 season. That is when Carolina stopped owning State.
The year 1956 is when little brother grew up.
