Where is the NCAA?
Pretty interesting ESPN article that answers that question.
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/8243813/academic-scandal-embroils-north-carolina-tar-heels-ncaa-stays-quietA point from that article that appears to sum things up to some extentl..
" But the key to the rule when it comes to UNC, according to people with knowledge of NCAA enforcement, is who was involved in making the classes "suspect." If a professor is not teaching or grading a course properly, the NCAA deems that a university issue. If a professor is not teaching or grading appropriately because a coach or member of the athletics department told him or her not to, then the NCAA becomes involved."
RE: Where is the NCAA?
Probably why the NCAA told the N&O to go and stuff itself.
re
This is interesting as well:
"At the same time, I will say that there are significant numbers of faculty at every institution who are friendly to athletes. I have 31 years of experience when I say that. Every institution has 'Jock Docs.' And every institution has majors that are less rigorous than others and, unfortunately, athletes tend to follow the path of least resistance. And so do academic counselors at times."
RE: Where is the NCAA?
It seems that Bubba, and the University of NC is working hard to solve the problems at UNC. After all this is over, UNC will be the example of how to run an athletic program.

Two observations:
1) If the athletic dept. academic support advisors funneled players into specific courses "taught" by the Jock Docs like Dr. N., would that concern the NCAA? I am not accusing, I am asking.
2) We have been told for the last 30 years that UNC was the example of how to run an athletic program, and look how that ended up.

1-I would think no. That would be a university issue, not an NCAA issue.
2-Whatever.

1) So according to the original post about the NCAA getting involved, if the athletic academic support group was involved with a professor known to provide fraudulent classes, the NCAA would not consider that an athletic connection and only a university issue. I am not sure I agree, but I will accept your perspective as possible.
2) Really? Whatever is your response? A little flippant wouldn't you agree?

1-The use of the word "involved" changes the question. If the academic support folks knew the classes were easy and guided athletes that way, I don't think that would be an NCAA violation. It would be an ethical issue, for the staff and for the University.
If "involved" means creating the course for Jock Doc or instructing him in how to conduct the course, that would appear, IMO, to be an NCAA violatioin.
2-As flippant a response as your original statement was relevant, wouldn't you agree?
RE: Where is the NCAA?
According to The Google on The Internets, the NCAA is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Hope this helps.

+1.
Thanks!
RE: Where is the NCAA?
This all boils to one "root" question that must be answered. We all need to know the answer so this can be truly fixed and put to rest....and so ABCers can go back to everyday life doing what they do.
Follow me on this path to the "root". The idea of whether or not these classes were rigorous is irrelevant. The true meat on this bone is the fact that grades were changed without authorization and signatures were forged. I'm not even sure a report said whether or not the grade changes were for athletes only or at all. For arguments sake I'll assume they were athletes. That brings us to the "root" multi-part question.
Why were grades changed without proper authorization and signatures forged? Did an outside entity put you up to this or was it self generated by Doc N and D Crowder? If it was an outside entity, who was it and were you coerced or compensated in any way for those actions? The answers to that will sum up this entire debacle and tell the tale of what this AFAM scam is all about. The enrollment statistics and academic rigors and independent study courses is all fluff. The real fraud, relative to NCAA rules, is the forgeries and grade changes.
And for this we must await the outcome of the SBI investigation. In the meantime we will keep reading more "water is wet" articles by the N&O/WRAL.
