Remember when UNC finished 8-4 while Dook stumbled to 6-7?

Let's think about the game again: Remember when Duke's husky O-linemen were pounding UNC's front seven? They were dropping like flies.

And yet, UNC remains 2nd in the league in scoring defense.

LOL, dook wins one and they "POUNDED" UNC. If 33 to 30 is a pounding, what is 37 - 21 ?

Don't worry. Those concussion aftereffects you've been suffering from the curb-stompings you've been receiving week after week will subside soon enough.

It won't be so funny today, when one of your precious few scholarship players is suspended during the most important game of your team's farce of a season. I doubt his presence would make much difference, considering how hopelessly outmatched the Heels are by NCSU, but every little bit helps.

    Excellent point about Fedora's recruits.

Renner is a better-than-average QB, but not the type to maximize this offense. He is no threat to keep the ball on the read-run option, which is a huge part of the scheme. The ground yards the QB ends up is less important that the legit threat to do so...which opens up the playbook.

The Duke offensive line was more physical as evident by running the same play over and over with success ie.. the split zone gap read or pretty much running between the tackles. It wasn't difficult to figure out what they were doing as Coach Fedora said they were making mistakes in gap responsibility. The 4-2-5 can be a complex defense and this being the first year of incorporating it at UNC they may need to do what the offense had to do and simplify the playbook and let the athletes make plays versus trying to rely on schemes. Gap responsibility sounds like it would be pretty easy fix but depending on the personnel and alignment in the 4-2-5 that responsibility would fall to a different player so...not as easy as it sounds. I may be oversimplifying it for the football X and O braniacs on this forum but it makes sense to me. Also Fedora hasn't had one of his recruits hit the field yet for UNC so none of the players on the field right now were recruited to play in the 4-2-5 although they have adjusted pretty well. Give him a few recruiting classes before you say he needs to recruit better. With all the mistakes they were still 13 seconds from stealing one from Duke. I say steal because Duke deserved that win and they won it up front. Plus Coach Cut brought the 4-2-5 with him to Duke a few years ago so I would say he knows a little about how to approach beating it. Excellent game plan and execution by the Blue Devils.
