RE: CBS Sports: UNC, Not State favorite in the ACC

I'm afraid that if Dex doesn't learn to play more under control, he will reinjure his knee before mid-season. Every time I can remember when he was out on the break, he tried to outrun everyone to the rim rather than looking for a passing option. He was successful quite a bit doing it that way, but it sure put him at risk launching himself into the air at breakneck speed. Guess that's okay if you know how to land gracefully.

To Cuss' point:

We just don't know what we're going to get with this UNC team. If everyone steps up, James plays like the gigantic kid he is...then this season could be very '06 like. OTOH, we could be more like the '10 team, God forbid.

It's going to be very interesting to see. Another thing is JMM. How will he respond to being the #1 option every night and seeing defenses schemed to stop him. We will see.

I guess cautious optimism is how I feel right now...but bracing for some serious bumps in the road.

I doubt we get 2010, we would have to get Drew II back and lose half the squad to injuries.
Another one being overlooked is PJ Hairston. PJ lost two relatives just a few weeks apart last season and his game took a nosedive. He will be much much better this season.

I believe last year when Dawkins sister died that was thereason given for his poor play. So, reason when it happens to a dukie, excuse when it happens to a tarheel.

Actually, his sister died in Dec 2009, right before his 2009-10 team won the National Title as a freshman. Last year was his junior year and his minutes and production were never even discussed since he wasn't much of a factor in his sophomore year either. When it was announced over the summer that he was stepping away from the team because of his sister, it was a surprise to everyone since the death of his sister happened in his freshman year and he was about to enter his senior year.

Even during the 2010-11 season after Dawkins scored over 20 against FSU followed by a couple 0 point performances, Coach K commented that he didn't know what was going on with Dawkins but no mention of grieving the death of his sister or any other excuse was made.
