MD accepts offer to join B1G

Swoffard should be slapped silly for letting Notre Dame in with the exception of the football program. Horrible.

You will notice that the B1G Ten's logo could be seen as containing a "16" in it.
Ken D. Nov 20, 10:39 a.m.
I don't expect the B1G Ten to stop at 14 teams. I think they will use the possibility of an invite to UNC and Duke as leverage to get Notre Dame to come in (along with Pitt, IMO).
If that happens, I could see FSU and Clemson going to the Big XII, and Miami and either VT or GT going to the SEC.
Asuming it's VT, that would still leave the ACC/Big East with a decent second tier football conference, on a par with the MWC. And it would make them the strongest basketball conference in the country - a seven or eight bid league almost every year. This is what would be left:
Seven ACC teams: UNC, Duke, State, Wake, GT,Virginia and BC.
Five Big East teams: Syracuse, UConn, Cincy, Louisville and Temple.
The obvious move is to put BC in a northern division.
I could live with that. But if the Big XII decides they also want to go to 16, we could have a major disaster on our hands. If Swofford manages to hold the ACC together with all this going on, he should be in line for a Nobel Prize, even if they have to create a new category.

Seriously, if Swofford is talking to Georgetown, the rest of the ACC AD's better be planning to impeach immediately.

"more follow Georgetown than do the Twerps up there"
A big time LOL

I REALLY like the idea of adding Georgetown. Minus the substandard football program, they are an ACC school all the way. Actually, having a substandard football program fits right in with the ACC for the most part...

Agreed. It's been real, Turtles - see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya.

There's already chatter Swoff is going to pull Georgetown in as basketball only (unless they up their fball to Div 1). Bazinga, the DC market is back in and stronger (more follow Georgetown than do the Twerps up there). WV is an option, I don't think they will fare well in the B12 in any sport. Louisville would be a nice fit too. Seems the ACC takes from the "big east" whomever it desires.
I wouldn't be so quick to announce the demise of the ACC, either. Losing Maryland is NOT a death blow by any means. Even minus FSU, the ACC is very strong. We all know it's a basketball conference first and foremost. And I think if the SEC really coveted FSU that much, the Noles would have been gone this last go around. And really, just like Maryland, I wouldn't miss them much either.

but who's gonna foot the bill for all those road trips westward for your non-revenue sports?
They cut 7 non-revenue sports due to economics in the past year. With this move, they'll probably be able to bring them back.

Maryland. You cannot be serious! You let two newcomers, Pres. Loh and A.D. Anderson sway the B.O.Regents into this tripe! Won't mention the $50 mil exit fee, but who's gonna foot the bill for all those road trips westward for your non-revenue sports? Think you'll fill the arena when Iowa and Minnesota come calling? Right. Indiana for fball? Goodbye lacrosse team. Who 'ya gonna play in conference? (only 3 others play) And this just to get kicked into the cellar in football by those "monsters of the midway" up there.
