Correct, you will remain the flagship, just as the Titanic will remain the Titanic. Both at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. LOL

Recruiting is infinitely more difficult when your athletic department isn't able to promise to keep you academically eligible without attending classes.

UNC is looking much like the Maryland Terps of the good state of North Carolina. Real good one year, lose players and not so good the next. Normally UNC's recruiting is on such a level of consistency that it evens out these types of swings. However Roy's recruiting level as of late has dropped a little and this could become the new norm. Not to worry Carolina fans there will still be more to ups than downs for now but if this trend continues Roy could be considering an early retirement.

Hey George - Good to see you back here.

I'm not sure what to expect. This team reminds me of some teams in the past when they've lost a lot of starters to the NBA. This team looks like five guys on the floor wearing the same uniform, but don't play like a team. They have no idea where each other is on the court, much less how to pass the ball, defend, etc. I do believe they'll get better as the season goes on, but they'll lose more games than usual for a Carolina team. SOmeone mentioned athletes vs basketball players. RIght now, Carolina has athletes that have the potential to be good basketball players.

I expect us to remain The Flagship, for as far as the eye can see.

That's really all that matters in The Swoff's Grand Scheme.

I thought earlier that UNC would reload, and with the guys back from injuries, they would be a better team vs right now. They haven't been a cohesive team. I thought that UNC would have given more effort than they have shown thus far too. It's way early, and teams will improve all around. But, Duke is going to beat on some teams this year as they have bolted out in front of all ACC teams. They have not quit playing when down either. Shooting is upward since last season. FT's will beat most in any tight game as Duke has shown thus far.

No, he wasn't asking how far you expected NC State to go. He wanted to know how far you expect your own team will go, you know, the Tar Heels.

Oh wait, maybe you were talking about Carolina, in the NIT.....

Yup had a coach that use to say athletes run, jump, shoot ,defend all the essentials of the game.

Only basketball players could run with a purpose, jump with a purpose, shoot with a purpose, defend with a purpose. Basketball acumen and the understanding of why you were doing what you were doing would make you a better player. Looking forward to seeing this group of athletes grow into a title contending UNC basketball team. We have seen this before and the cycle continues...I'd say in 2 years if they stay together the core of this squad (Johnson, Paige, Hairston,Tokoto,James, Simmons,Hubert,Davis) will be mentioned as contenders for the title.

Your number 4 got my attention. I think, right now, Carolina has a lot of athletes playing basketball. It IS a big difference.

Very good observation and true to form. So the questions I have looking at the roster of players.
    1. How many saw significant playing time last year when it counted ?
    2. Who is the leader of this team ? What is their identity ?
    3. Who is the go to guy in a must have situation ? Who is the second choice when other teams figure that out and take away the first option.
    4. Are they basketball players or athletes playing basketball ?? Big difference.

So as a fan my expectation for UNC is to come up with answers to these questions by year's end. Not just mentally but see it in action on the court. It's one thing to be named team captain it another to act like one on the court.

I know UNC fans are trying to be optimistic, as they should. I would.
But, they looked awful shaky out there. In order to be more competitive against top teams (btw, IU is a beast) they need to establish an identity. Find a floor general and follow their lead.
I read a lot about all the athletes UNC has. But, that gets you nowhere against athletic teams that play good team defense and are very disciplined. Examples: Indiana, Duke, Ohio St, Mich....
The only 2 players UNC had on the floor that looked like they were playing for their lives were Dexter Strickland and JMM.

    Everyone else looked starstruck.
