If they had been in the NIT, they might have at least made the title game.

Take this post for example. BlueDevils00 said in an earlier thread UNC was poised for a NIT run, that is 1 person saying so. You claim "many ABC'rs" have said this, well, where are they? Still waiting.

    How'd that work out, btw?

Not a lot of eye candy in Carrboro either. Sure, throwing a frisbee around while you're stoned is fun, but tell those chicks to shave their armpits! Go "occupy" a Walgreen's for goodness sakes!

I don't even pay attention to rankings this time of year. The fact UNC doesn't have a great resume thus far means absolutely nothing. A young team sometimes takes months to start playing well with each other. They have the talent, and I expect we are about to see a great year for UNC. I expect a total of 7 losses.

  • hovis Dec 7, 2012

Aw man! Now that espn has rated us there we must not be the same team that we were before this came out. Now that this is out we must be destined for failure!! Espn says so! BTW, what was the NCSU power ranking at this time last year? 7th.

At the moment, we are all tied in the ACC, 0-0. What matters is where we all will be starting in March. No need for suicide watch for me. It's only a game. Every year for all but one team, the season ends too early.

I watch and follow a lot of Carolina sports. Lots to celebrate, even with some disappointments. For example, field hockey has played in the NCAA Championship game the past four years, but hasn't won the NC since 2009. An excellent season still. We are now 6-9 in NC games under Coach Shelton. An amazing record, only surpassed by soccer.

It's been a good fall for UNC sports. And looking better for spring from tennis and golf, to lax and baseball, and most every sport in between.

You should expect a strong emphasis on women's sports since Carolina is well over 60% women students.

Duke and Carolina compete in various sports. State, not so many.

Based on a couple of computerized systems and on my following ACC basketball since its beginning. I said "I think", so it is my conclusion. BTW while not quite as good as Nate Silver, I have quite a decent forecast reliability of recent years, based on my end of December, beginning of January predictions.

It is based on at least as much as the ranking by WPinThizzou.

Based on what? Who has UNC beaten? The only 2 decent teams they've played, they got blown out. UVA, VT, Miami, NCSU all have beaten solid teams. UNC's resume is utterly horrible right now.

  • unc70 Dec 7, 2012
    Sports Legend

I think the rankings are more likely:

    1: Duke

2-3: State & Carolina; OR UNC & NCSU

4-7: in any order: VA, VT, MD, Miami

With Wake and BC at the bottom. A lot too early to be sure.

I expect Carolina to finish ahead of State at the end, and I don't see that as just from my personal biases.

If the ACC wasn't so weak, then 6th in the ACC would be a stretch. Unfortunately for Carolina, being 6th in the ACC (this year) is not saying much. But those blowout losses are.

http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/69386/power-rankings-atlantic-coast-conferenceJust where I said they'd be. 18-13, a solid run in the NIT is likely for this crop of Tarholes. I would actually make the argument that Virginia is #6 and UNC is #7.
