Question for logical and rational fans

Question for logical and rational fans

If what the Martin report said is true and it is non athletic, why did Jules and Debbie create these no show classes, change grades and do all the things they have been accused of doing? Who benefited and why?

Follow up. If your answer is the general student population, why would the department head do that?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

RE: Question for logical and rational fans

I won't speculate why Jules and Deb did what they did, but the one thing I don't understand is how Gov Martin can conculde this was an academic issue, and not an athletic issue. It's athletes taking these classes, so to me, it's both an athletic AND an academic issue.

PS: If you're looking for a motive as to why these classes were offered, I think it's obvious: to keep athletes eligible.

Thank you for an honest answer. I actually think the Martin conclusions may open UNC up to further NCAA investigations.

Btw, I agree with you. I think other students took he classes as part of the ruse. I wonder how many of the grade changes were for athletes vs the general student population.

Guess we'll never know.

That is an easy one Nips. They wanted to draw an easy paycheck instead of work for it. Same as the guy at work that abuses a system to defraud a company. Academics at all Universities have way too much freedom and are not held accountable. But such it is around the country. Dr. J came from a culture where it's not always performance, it's who you know and what you can smokescreen and make people think you are doing. Look at how Teachers Unions around the country protect their own even when they are found to be committing crimes. Tenure is a huge problem at Universities, plain and simple.

RE: Question for logical and rational fans

Maybe they were trying to keep all students who took African studies courses in academic good standing. Maybe the question should be..."why did(all)those taking African studies courses need help with their grades?" Was that segment of the student population struggling with their GPA, not just the athletes?

They need help because of the number of African Americans put into the school incapable of earning degrees in normal fields. In the effort for a more racially balanced student body they instituted a policy of Affirmative action. This placed students with vastly inferior academic credentials in the university. It was not long before someone pointed out the poor graduation rate of these students. An effort was made to help them graduate.

I don't know if that is the truth or not, however, if true, it IS an academic scandal of the 1st order and NOT an athletic scandal.

Why would a school like UNC with all their pompous and arrogant faculty and alumni allow that to go unchecked for decades?

Which is the focus of every UNCheat fan. That it is not an athletic scandal.

I just hope the NCAA reviews the grade changes aspect.
